I think it would be interesting to find out how and when we all first got into tennis.....
I started playing when I was younger and I have loved it ever since. I used to watch some aswell when it was on, especially when we were visiting family in the US. I remember watching the US Open in 1997 because my parents were rooting for Rusedski to reach the final and everything. That was also the first time I saw Davenport play, and I just thought she was amazing. From then I just watched it more when I could get access to it but I played for fun more than I watched tennis. For the last 4 or 5 years, I have been watching tennis alot more and improving my game. I started to use the internet alot more and kept up with tennis every day, I first stumbled accross a tennis forum in Spring 2005 and have been online ever since!

I started tennis in 1999, and I only really started getting interested in the pro tour in 2005. It was great. Talking on forums with people about it has just made it more exciting for me. _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

My mom sent me to have some lessons with a coach (I can't even remember his name) when I was 6-7-years-old. Very slow progress for the first five/six years. After that time, I was only an intermediate player. But, I became more interested, and was an advanced player after surfing the internet, watching pro clips, etc. The first real tennis memory I have was watching Agassi win the 2003 AO while going to bed in the hotel Vogue in Montreal. I first stumbled onto CP when I was 13-years-old (2004... I can't believe it has been such a long time!). _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican

I used to watch it on television all the time when I was growing up. I remember watching Lendl win the French over McEnroe..(yeah I'm older).
I remember the play/strategy just making sense to me.
Due to the infrequent television coverage and at the time, unfamiliar tennis schedule I kind of lost touch...until I went to Wimbledon in '89...been playing ever since. |

Intersting stories everyone....
Rattler, I would have loved to have been able to follow tennis in the early-80's with all those greats around at the same time!
btw, do you visit Wimbledon every year? The 1989 one must have been exciting. From highlights and articles I have seen, alot of talk was about Graf and Sanchez-Vicario, and Seles making her grasscourt debut (she looked quite comfortable on it until she got thrashed by Graf). And of course on the men's side there was Lendl, Edberg, Becker who had great matches on grass. |

I haven't been back to England since the mid 90s; however I will be taking my wife and daughter (she was born in Oxford) to Europe next summer (her graduation present) We will be in Paris for Roland Garros (my 2nd favorite tourney), London for Stella and Wimbly....hopefully I'll be able to go to all three, but realistically Wimbly is the best bet...
'89 was special...I got to see Chris Evert's last Wimbly match.
'90 was great as well..the Becker v. Ivanisevic Semi was outstanding.
'91 saw Andre come back to Wimbly...saw Courier on one of the outside courts...biggest forehand I'd ever seen.
I don't know how it is now post 9-11 and all, but the players used to walk around the grounds or the village all the time....I bough coffee next to Jimmy Connors under Center Court...(had no idea it was him until my wife said hi Jimmy.)
Had a pims with Henri Leconte at a pub in the village once. |

Wow, those 6 weeks are the best time in the tennis calendar for me as everything changes completely (from clay to grass) in such a short period of time. The Stella Artois is a lovely tournament to go to. The whole place is just perfect. It is alot more homely and closer to the players than most other tournaments these days. Obviously to see two Slams back-to-back would be amazing aswell! Hope you get to all three!
Chris Evert's last match at Wimbledon must have been a great experience. I have seen her US Open win over Seles in her last tournament and the atmosphere was incredible there.
I don't think Wimbleodn is quite that open anymore which is a shame! You could say post 9-11, but also post-Seles stabbing. |

I got into tennis cuz of my dad. He always took me to the tennis courts with him when he was playing a match or practice and I hit up against the wall or just chased balls. He would then give me a lesson or two after each of hius matches no matter how tired he was and I would learn from there.
