I do think Nadal will win RG as well. The best of five will also probably be an advantage since he can grind out matches. He probably knew his clay streak had to come to an end at some point and better at Hamburg than at Roland Garros for him.

But yes, RG will be quite interesting this year. For both men and women. Jankovic won Rome by the way. I can't believe she is still playing Strasbourg after playing so much on clay. Shocked She really should pull out. Still think Henin will win, although Jankovic has come close to beating her the last couple times, but I don't think Jankovic is mentally solid enough to close it out. Kuznetsova should also do well, she's gotten to 4 finals this year but lost all of them. And of course we can't count Serena out as she brings her best to the grand slams.

Seems to me that Nadal wants to take it easy before FO. Which is smart. Who cares about the record. We all know who's the best on clay and that Nadal can still beat Federer on clay. Come FO Federer better bring it all because it will be a tough one.

If he wanted to take it easy, he would have pulled out of Hamburg. He had no points to defend there and he could have gone to Paris to get used to the clay at Roland Garros. He wouldn't have won the first set 6-2 and had 40-15 on Federer's serve early in the second set had he just wanted to take it easy. Him being tired I can understand but him wanting to take it easy I disagree with.

Quite frankly, I think Nadal is really trying to catch Federer points-wise by the end of this year....

You don't call losing 6-0 in the thrid set taking it easy? I know Federer was playing very well and Nadal was playing badly (missing alot) but We've seen him in holes like thise before in matches and comeback (2006 french open, R32 vs Baghdatis in Dubai ect..). Taking a beat down 6-0?!

I would call it being tired and just not being able to do anything, not taking it easy.

I have no idea why Nadal played here. It was foolish of him to play here. He was clearly drained, you could see it in his matches.

It gets mentioned every season, the ATP is stupid to schedule two Masters Series events back to back like this, more so because it is so close to RG Rolling Eyes

That reminds me, I think Nadal also came to support keeping this tournament since the ATP is considering removing it.

I really thought that Nadal would have withdrawn from Hamburg. That's what I posted a week ago. However, it looks to me that he had a different strategy. Once he decided to stay, he really did play. The day before the final he said that win or loose, he would still have the highest of confidence in France. In fact, now that the streak is behind him, he might even feel somewhat of a relief, which means that he will really be at his best in RG.

I expect Nadal to win easily. I also expect Federer to NOT make the finals.

I suppose it is logical that Nadal is very tired after winning and playing so much. I guess Federer losing early in Rome was a blessing in disguise for him for Hamburg. He just had more left in the tank.

I was actually guessing that Nadal would have withdrawn Wink
