Throughout this week former No.1, and multiple Slam champion John Edelstein will share his views on the Australian Open. He will predict some matches for the next day, give interviews, ect., ect.. Here is his first 'blog' if you will. Cool

Who will win this event?

John Edelstein:
Really tough to tell. Vanessa will be rusty, so I will go with PSALT. He plays well here.

Sheila vs. Fulgora [Show Court 2]

John Edelstein:
Both players mainly stay back on the baseline. Sheila has more power, more control, and will have the crowd on her side. It should be an easy win for her. However Fulgora reached the quarterfinals here a couple of years ago, I believe making her big upset over Ying-Chang on this very court.

Tennis Fan vs. Cecil [Court 4]

John Edelstein:
I have watched Tennis Fan multiple times in the past year, and he is very talented. He should challenge Yodavitch in the second round after he gets through this one easily.

Dreyfus vs. Rhomberg [Court 6]

John Edelstein:
Hmm...This is probably the closest first round match. Dreyfus is the favorite and has reached the quarterfinals here before, but sometimes he is streaky and plays like a different player. It will all depend on Dreyfus.

Q. Returning here to the site of so much success for you, how do you feel? Do you miss the days of Rod Laver Arena, and havng so much attention? Now you are unseeded, and playing on a side court. Do you feel offended almost?

John Edelstein:
I never liked the attention. I am quiet and don't really like getting the media attention all that much so in a way it's a relief to be overlooked. I do miss Rod Laver arena, but maybe I will play on it this year; who knows.

Q. You will be playing together with Bizet in doubles. I wasn't aware Bizet and yourself were friends. Talk about playing together with someone you have played against for so long.
John Edelstein:

Bizet and I are not good friends, but we know each other's games and styles, which is improtant for doubles. Bizet is a good player and a good person. He asked me last week if I would like to play doubles with him, and I said yes. I think we will be a good team. We both have good serves, good volleys, and experience.
