The Belligerent Teenager Matures
We all knew that Jbors47 could make the upset. Known for his teenage spunk, Jbors has the fire power and the passion needed for a champion. Nevertheless, his streaky results over the past few years have caused great doubt among his fans and most likely among himself as well.
Jbors began his career winless until his second season, where he shocked the world by taking out world #1 and Wimbledon champion Jennacourt in the Season 3 U.S. Open, going on to reach the semifinals. He then captured multiple small titles for the rest of the season, looking like an upcoming star. However, as Season 4 came around, he seemed to lose some of his form. He played a great tournament at the Williams Series-Venus in the spring, beating recent Australian Open champion Yodavitch and reaching the finals; then he had some mediocre results. He seemed frustrated by line calls, frustrated by his countless unforced errors, and frustrated about his girlfriend, fellow tennis player leftys_rock. "What is the deal with this guy? Why won't he stop acting like a 17 year-old?"
Jbors waited months before answering these questions. Some may think that it was earlier today that Jbors outgrew his teenage caccoon, beating world #1 Not_Even_Amateur in the New Zealand International finals. But in fact it was the entire week that Jbors showed true maturity and mental toughness, winning his last two matches in third set tie-breaks. Even after dropping sets, Jbors calmly continued to pound away with great accuracy as if the match had just begun.
Even so, the young American has and still does receive much criticism. His week here certainly has not convinced N_E_A of much. He stated in a post-match interview:

Not_Even_Amateur:
He [Jbors] is part of the new generation, a clone if you like, hit and hope. Fair enough if he is on then is pretty good...like tonight but I was about 40% and he still had to be at his ultimate to take it the distance and win. That tells you a lot. I was getting by through just playing smart tennis, doing something called mixing up my play which I don't think jbors has ever heard of. I did enjoy the match for sure but I am disheartened, not about the outcome, but my whole week it has been really dissapointing. Why am I, the world number one, playing three set tiebreakers all week? Vanessa didn't. John didn't. It tells me two things; I shouldn't be number one and I am far from even remotely in-form. Jbors should just pray he doesn't catch me on a half-decent day, he would be finished.
There is no question that N_E_A had not been playing his best tennis. However, Jbors still remained focused and composed, hitting a forehand winner on his second match point to win his first tier II title. Other players have also spoken of his game in the past year:
Quote:
Jennacourt:
Jbors is just like J-man--only much worse.
Quote:
Tricatrina:
It's like playing a kid out there. He complains, curses, yells, cries; he should learn how to be a tennis player and go back to the juniors.
But do these comments remain valid after the emphatic performance we saw this week? We will have to wait until the Australian Open to really find out.
