A rollercoaster of an indoor season will continue in Berlin today. The draw is nothing special; the top seed is Tricatrina, who has been less than special this season. Stroganoff is really the only player that has been in great form this season. Dave is another players you can watch out for this event though, as well as Bizet, who we all hope can only suck for so long. Ying-Chang is here as well, she promises to sell tickets for people looking for a circus. It’s only a question of what kind of breakdown she will have this week. Mollusk is another potential winner; he has been in nice form lately.
Matches to Watch
Mollusk-Dreyfus
Mollusk has really shown great tennis in the past year. I do believe he has gotten rather unlucky, and that has prevented him from returning to the top 10. He will play Dreyfus, who is a dangerous hardcourter, but has yet to get those kind of results anywhere else. Mollusk should win, but Dreyfus is capable of blowing most of the court on his day.
Avolt-Aztec
Avolt has been a rather pleasant surprise this indoor season. He has actually been rather good. Aztec will be a tough test though. Aztec has always been a dangerous floater. He has an explosive game; he has always lacked consistency though. I do think Avolt will win, simply because his variety and speed will get Aztec flustered.
Avolt is the subject of my interview today.
Q. You have always been labeled as a hopeless dirtballer. You have actually gotten some solid hardcourt results though. Are you underrated on the quicker surfaces?
Avolt:
I'm good on clay. I don' know...I sink I play better on the clay but I can play on hard surface too. I sink...I sink people sink I cannot play on other courts but I know I can play well too. Some people, they just say that.
Q. Some unnamed high ranked players are being accused of playing large amounts of Tier IV's. What is your opinion on that?
Avolt:
Hmm? I don' sink I play very many small events. I don' know why they say that? Who is saying?
Q. How do you feel about the success of Yodavitch this season?
Avolt:
Yes, Yodavitch is playing very well this season and I am happy because we from same country, home. We play together a lot when I was young and I am happy for him. I know he is, umm...disability now but I hope he gets better soon.
Q. Do you feel you are deserving of a top 10 spot? Do you think you can get enough success of quick surfaces to really makes a good run at the top 10.
Avolt:
I sink on clay I can be more than top 10. Other surface I am not as good but I can play well on hard and faster too. I am more than clay tennis. I sink if I keep practicing hard on the surfaces I can be top 10 soon. I hope and I will try my best. Sorry my English is not my best.
