I have renewed hope, for the grass court season has arrived! My favourite surface, the grass suites my slices and my variety. I am really counting on Wimbledon to turn around my season. Of course, how could I do that without playing in the Roddick Open? As usual, the Texas tournament was packed as six out of the ten Top 10 participated. Unfortunately, my rank had dropped, so I was unseeded, and had to play the tricky Jbors47 in the first round. He's not as comfortable on grass though, so I defeated him in straight sets to set up a meeting with the superb Not_Even_Amateur. Although grass is his least comfortable surface, he pushed me back with those deep high-bouncing topspin shots, and he beat me with a break in each set. It was good for me though, to get another two matches on grass, as I had only had two in the Johansson Cup, where I lost to Bizet in the quarterfinals in a tight three-set-match.
So, it's off to London for me. London's really the centre of everything... centre of the arts, centre of sports, culture, you name it. Of course, I just had to watch an opera at one of the premier opera houses in the world, Covent Garden. I brought PSALT along with me to watch a nice little opera named La sonnambula, and, of course, it was terrific.
London's one of my favourite cities in the world, and I, being a tourist and with time to spend, visited the major tourist attractions, such as the London Eye and the Houses of parliament.
Wimbledon uses a unique seeding system, using not only the entry rankings, but past results there as well. I was thrilled that my seeding moved up four places, from 15th to 11th, and I have to say, this unique seeding system keeps everyone on your toes. Not so fortunately, though, I was drawn to play stevos14, my fellow-talented Canadian, who I was a friendly rival with in the junior days.
So, wish me luck, and I hope to bring you good news in my next blog!
