I agree with you Tennis fan. Something I'm rather afraid of about the RR is, perhaps there will be strategic tanking? Like, for example, "If I win this match, I play Federer, if I don't, I'll play a qualifier; I think I'll tank". This RR is a terrible idea.
Exactly. Since one chance doesn't mean your lose there will be more tanking. Also more money for players?! Dude it's not like there making alot of money already!!! Plus money isn't an incentive to all players. On court coaching was about as far as would go but now all of these. What's happening to Tennis
Well, I think on-court coaching is the worst thing that has happened to the sport. I said this before, but I'll say it again, Federer was totally correct: a tennis match is like an exam. You should be left out there alone to figure your way through the match. This is the real challenge of tennis. Now that's vanishing into thin air.... _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself

If you remember at the WTA Champs last year, Sharapova tanked her match against Petrova because she had already made the SF and was "conserving energy." Who wants to watch a tanked match? Money is honestly not a big deal unless your one of the lower ranked players who lives week by week. And I think right now, tennis is attempting to "modernize". It's not working, so the associations should stop trying. I don't think they realize that the on court coaching didn't work apart from a handful of players. _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

The thing is most of the WTA players like that. I don't think many players will like the Round Robin format. To many players are going to reject it and it won't work in the end, hopefully _________________

Really? So far, the only ones that I really see using it regularly are Hingis and to some degree Kuznetsova. I would really not call it a sucess. What's the point of putting a microphone on Melanie Molitor or Stefan Ortega if they speak Czech and Spanish? _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

Hopefully it won't work...I never liked a RR format... does anyone know why they abolished the Grand Slam Cup? From what I read, it seems to be far more superior to the RR-formatted Masters Cup/YEC. It's basically the top 16 performers at the Grand Slams playing in an elimination-format 16-player draw.... _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself

Well since I don't watch a ton of WTA matches I should just shut the hell up _________________

I like the round-robin for the YEC. I think the YEC should have the top 8, not top 16. I like the idea of everyone playing everyone because they are the top 8 players in the world, so every match should be of some good standard. I do think they should bring back the Grand Slam Cup with 16 players. I think it was a fantastic event and I have no idea when they got rid of it. I think it was last played in 1999 when Greg Rusedski and Serena Williams won it.
I guess the main difference between the two are the YEC is contested between the 8 players who were basically most consistant at a top level the entire year, while the Grand Slam Cup was basically only the 16 players who played best at the Grand Slams. Perhaps they thought it was too tiring for the 8 players who have to play both tournaments? _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself

I doubt that, because now those top 8 players just play other events, so it is still the same amount of events. I think they should definetely bring back the Grand Slam Cup.

atleast for ESPN there hasn't been a problem with Spanish speaking coaches as Mary Joe Fernandez has been commentating. I get your point though. _________________
I'm excited that tennis is going to make some changes and frankly for once, recognize that they need to make some changes. In the US people go nuts for tennis for 2 wks. but the other 40 plus wks. nobody cares. Golf (ugh!) kills it right now, so tennis has to step it up and think outside of the box. But I'm not crazy about the RR format proposal. It's basically to protect the stars. Not so sure how that'll work, I'll wait to judge it when I see how it goes.
Great idea to get rid of so many best of 5 matches in non-majors and even at the TMS level. Produces too much wear and tear on the body and too many poor results at the next tourney.
Not a big fan.... _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself
