Davenport struggled but came through over Chakvetadze 7-6 3-6 7-5. Davenport won only one more point than her opponent, she was broken seven times but broke back six times. She will now play Jie Zheng.

Defending champion Maria Kirilenko went out 5-7 6-4 6-2 to Peng. Another upset as Nicole Vaidisova lost to Ai Sugiyama 6-4 1-6 6-3. Kuznetsova also advances when Kostanic retired.

That was a tough match for Lindsay, glad she came through. Zheng will give her problems if she doesn't get her act together.

I picked Davenport. She will need to step it up for Zheng. Zheng can cause upsets and is a good player. Both hit pretty flat.

Lindsay is through 6-2 7-6 over Zheng. That is a good win that will give her confidence for the match against Mauresmo in the next round. I consider this match an upset, I thought Zheng would win based on Lindsay's poor 1st round match.
