Full Disclosure / Disclaimer - I haven't done this yet, so my knowledge is still all-theory:

If you add 1 strip each at, say, 3 and 9 'o' clock, then you ought to add 2 strips in the handle (by opening the buttcap, sticking the lead tape inside and putting the buttcap back on).

This ensures that the overall balance is not changes and lead tape is added only to improve upon the stability and also simultaneously increase/modify the sweetspot.
