Karlovic won the doubles title in Memphis in February...

In Estoril, Albert Portas ended the run of Justin Gimelstob. It has been a good tournament for Gimelstob, who isn't a big claycourter. He is one of the few Americans to play a full claycourt season and has had a breakthrough tournament.

Interesting that Gimelstob is playing a full claycourt season. I thought he was the one to write on SI that it is fine that Americans are skipping it....

Yes. He's having to play a lot of qualifiers lately. Although he's been wining alot of the qualifying rounds, he can't afford to continue to play extra matches like these.

Top seed David Nalbandian cruised past the last Portuguese player Frederico Gil. He will meet Albert Portas in the SF. Carlos Moya beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (the man who beat him in Melbourne last year), and Nikolay Davydenko beat Gilles Muller. Nalbandian, Moya, and Davydenko are all former champions, Portas is still lookng for his 2nd title after Hamburg Masters 2001.

Nalbandian and Portas are 1-1 H2H, both matches on clay. They have not played since 2002 though. Moya has never lost a set to Davydenko in 4 matches, 3 on clay. I can't really see Nalbandian losing in this type of form, although he does not always play his best towards the end of a tournament (he has only won 4). Moya's record over Davydenko is a clear advantage for him and should be able to dispatch Davydenko.

Top seed Flavia Pennetta will play Jie Zheng, and Lourdes Dominguez-Lino plays Na Li in the SF matches.

J.Zheng def F.Penneta 6-2 6-3 and right now Li is up a set and a break over Loit. so it looks like a all-Chinese final. who do you think would win that one? I am picking Zheng. I was watching her Golovin match back in Miami, I love her backhand. It's very consistent and very powerful.

Zheng and Li are playing in the first ever all-chinese final. Both have won 1 title in their career, and both reached a claycourt final last year. They are very evenly matched. However, Zheng leads their H2H, giving her a slight advantage.

Davydenko v Nalbandian is a more exciting match. Both players have reached the top heights of tennis, and have lingered around in the top 20 for a long time, and both are very good claycourters, and both have won this tournament before. I think Nalbandian has been playing a more solid game and is more confident at the moment though, so he is probably the favourite. They are 2-2 H2H (1-1 on clay).

In Munich, Kristof Vliegen and Olivier Rochus set up the first All-Belgian final. Both have had a fairly comfortable route through. I think Rochus is the favourite having won a title before. Vliegen is only in his 2nd final, but is having a great season so far.

The ATP have made a video on Dmitry Tursunov's blog. Apparently it was really popular this week, along with Bryanne Stewart's blog.

I'm not sure, but she is blogging for a few tournaments. She blogged at the Family Circle Cup.

David Nalbandian won the 5th title of his career. He has won the title for the 2nd time. Also, this exact week last year he won the title in Munich. He now plays a qualifier at the Italian Open where he is a former finalist.

Jie Zheng won the first all-chinese final when Na Li had to retire. This is her 2nd career title. She plays Nathalie Dechy at the Berlin-German Open next week. This takes pressure off her ranking because she has finalist points to defend in Rabat in 2 weeks.

In Munich, Olivier Rochus won the first all-belgian final over Kristof Vliegen. It is his 2nd title and first since 2000. Vliegen though has been having a breakthrough season so far reaching a final and 2 SF.

It's good the Nalbandian has finally got a win this year after losing so many semifinal matches this year. Based on the quality he can play, it is extremely surprising that he has only won five tournaments.
