In Federer-Roddick matches, it's very common for Federer to out-ace Roddick by a margin of 10 aces.

All that are listed in the poll are pretty important, but placement is #1 to an effective serve.

It's funny to hit really heavy serves against lower-level players, though. At school, I kicked one over his head....

I kinda figured the results would say placement is the most important, which I agree with. I also think spin on the serve is very important especially a 2nd serve.

In Division 1 there aren't any weak players so you must have a good serve to make it.

Defintely during the 17-19 year old time frame for guys is when they can really get their mechanics going in the right directions. Their bodies begin to develop and they get out of that awkward phase. For girls it comes a little earlier 15-17.

Yes....I just turned 15 (in March), and in I have grown at least three inches (to 5'8) in the past year. I notice that just those three inches allow me to have more options when I serve: I can get more angles, and I can produce more spin as well.

Yes, I find spin is very effective too. It's a bit harder for us because we have to explode upwards into the ball rather than slightly forwards (what people taller than 6'1 can do). However, we tend to overcome this with good technique.

about shorter people serving, does anyone think that H-H is using steriods? she is like 4 inches shorter than Davenport and Sharapova but serves just as fast.

No, I'm pretty sure she doesn't. I don't think steroids will actually help your game, because you would lose the touch and finesse. She just uses her feet, racquet speed, and rotation to the fullest.

yes, they were talking about it on the espn forum(even though a lot of their talk is rubbish)......because she is shorter than hingis, yet can generate so much power than her.........i am wondering about that.........i would LOVE to be as short as i am and serve as fast as her.....this is true with her ground strokes as well........she can hit them just as fast as davenport and sharapova even with her being 6-7 inches shorter than them.....
