I hope she would, or else, she would be the highest ranked player ever to retire.

She seems determined to retire and get married and have a baby. But if she is at the top of her game I hope she would reconsider.

Yes. Like, I uderstood why Graf retired when she was Number 3 in the world; she had basically played to her potential (22 GS + an Olympic Gold Medal). However, Clijsters is surely too good of a player to only win 1 Grand Slam.

Yes, she could easily be at the top for a couple more years in my opinion and win several more slams.

I really think if Lindsey Davenport can come back and put in a great performance at Wimbledon and then really put together a strong hard court season topped off by winning the US Open she could end up at #1 by years end.

Perhaps, but I can see her playing tournaments selectively. She would have to do really well at all the tournaments she plays in.

I agree her back disc problem is a pretty serious injury and should be taken that way. She should play tournaments she only feels at totally 100% at.

Yes. She has to do what Agassi does (sort of). Play selectively.

That's too bad, but It's smart that she's not risking anything, for we all know that Wimbledon is much more important for her.

Yes, now she hopefully can get her back to 100% and put in a very good run at Wimbledon.

I hope her back doesn't act up at Wimbledon, though...that basically prevented her from winning last year, although she did get to Match Point.

I believe Mauresmo will be #1. I think she can have a good chance at winning the French Open and if she plays consistent throughout the hard court season she should stay at the top.

Interesting, Henin-Hardenne's website has put up charts showing all the possible results of the year end #1.
http://www.henin-hardenne.be/bin/specials/pr%E9dictions_masters_7.pdf

Amelie has to hope Justine finishes third or doesn't compete in the YEC to end YE #1. She has to sucessfully defend her title as well. If Justine makes it to the final, she will end #1. God, it's tight. Should be entertaining either way it turns out.
