but as we saw in davis cup, he lost both his rubbers.....one after having a 2 sets to love lead and his dead rubber......and that is on grass......even if it isnt blakes favorite, he should like that better than clay, and he still lost on it.....

Yes...he was serving for the match in one of them. I actually think Blake would do well on clay, though. But even so, we all know Roddick has been the second best grass court player in the past few years.

But Roddick has only had real success on clay at Houston and Atlanta. He hasn't really done well in any clay court tournament other than those two. Even in his semifinal appearance in Rome, he didn't really face anyone tough until Haas....

True....although Roddick didn't have much experience on clay, that was actually his best clay court result to date. (At a big tournament)

This is going to be very tough for the US to overcome . If they play on clay, which it looks as if they shall that is a big advantage to the Russians. I see the doubles going to the US, but Roddick may lose both of his rubbers if Safin & Davydenko play and I don't see Blake beating either one of them either on clay. The US have to hope that Safin & Davydenko decide not to play.

Yes, I agree. If it is on clay, then Russia will win. Safin and Davydenko are very good on clay, aswell as Igor Andreev who started and ended the claycourt season with titles last year. They are a very strong team, the only weak player would be Dmitry Tursunov...

....And even Tursunov became a Davis Cup hero recently. I don't know how small the US odds are at winning if it's on clay.

I agree even if Andreev and/or Tursunov play the US will still have a difficult time on the clay.

I expect the Bryan Brothers to win their rubber, though. They won Roland Garros, after all.
