Gold Coast Quarter-Finals: Steffi Graf vs Elena Dementieva

Steffi Graf dfts Elena Dementieva 7-6(4) 6-7(6) 7-6(4)

A ridiculously entertaining match this one and Annabel's pick for the title just scrapes through. She had huge leads in every single one of the sets but Elena, ever the fighter, came flying back into the match with an unreachable level of hitting. The difference between Graf and Henin, who lost to Elena in a similar match yesterday, is that Graf had more left in the tank at the end of sets. It was a nip and tuck match with a coin toss in each set but Steffi is the better player and progresses!

Gold Coast Quarter-Finals: Martina Hingis vs Amelie Mauresmo

Martina Hingis dfts Amelie Mauresmo 6-4 6-2 Shocked Shocked

Wow. An amazing performance from Martina and a totally unexpected result...she is one to look out for this girl. She amazed the crowd with some great play (and with some juggling at the end) and had Mauresmo completely bewildered. I cannot believe the ease with which she won; she was just incredibly consistent and very intelligent. A hard loss for Amelie but I am sure she will bounce back!

Gold Coast Quarter-Finals: Kim Cljisters vs Svetlana Kuznetsova

Svetlana Kuznetsova dfts Kim Cljisters 6-0 4-6 6-0 Confused

A weird, weird match. Once again Svetlana shows her steamrolling prowess and players really do have to be wary of her. It was amazing how close the second set was; having been destroyed in the first set, Cljisters really upped the ante and started smacking the ball almost as hard as Svetlana, resulting in about 6-7 coin tosses! It was truly bizarre as every game went to deuce. Then Svetlana just continued hitting the way she loves and bagelled Cljisters again to move into the Semi-Finals, she is dangerous this girl and she just loves hitting a tennis ball!

Gold Coast Quarter-Finals: Ana Ivanovic vs Lindsay Davenport

Ana Ivanovic dfts Lindsay Davenport 6-4 6-4 Cool

Brilliant. Absolutely sensational performance from Miss.Ivanovic, another plus: Annabel is wrong about Lindsay favouring Rebound Ace being the key factor in this match-up, it was Ana's play that dictated this game. She was more consistent but at the same time hit very hard. Lindsay still needs to tweak her game; she needs to still add a tad more consistency, she collapses in some games to the point where Ana was able to take advantage. All Lindsay needed was a bit more aggression in one game in the middle of the first set and she would have won it. She also needs to add more aggression to the 9th and/or the 10th game, she can not afford to get that far in a set only for Ana's consistency to outlast her. It was a good effort though; but she must learn how to play Ana because Ana sure knows how to play her, this is a much more clean-cut performance from the exhibition, obviously Ana learned more from that match. Great match!! Surprised Cool

Lol...no, I just respect a great game. And btw, that cool emoticon is equal to the bow down, clap etc on WTAWorld...it is what I will be using for a great match/great performance. That was both but a really impressive performance from Ana! Annabel was also wrong which is good because I like Annabel being wrong. Annabel will be popping into the studio before every Final event too with a long review and preview Shocked Shocked . Wow.

What"whole Steffi-NEA thing"?

Good luck against Kuzy Ana Wink

Lol...I didn't see you post that anywhere? But ye...I am just building Steffi up. She is good though, seriously. And is the only player whose points might change at various stages if she is losing consistently Wink

So beware of her...
