yes.....tournaments are so much more fun to watch when theyre filled with good players that are injury free that play the top quality tennis.....much more fun to watch than injured tennis players trying to fight through their matches or tournaments with like half the seeds pulling out.....

I agree. However, many of the players ask for trouble, as they play like five exhibition matches during their rest periods (Ex. Roddick).

Not to mention that he played a match that was decided in a match tiebreaker (first to ten after one-set all) against Blake after.

I believe exhibitions are good for raising $$$$$ for charities, but it does risk the players for some injuries that would have not normally happened.

Yes, the charity part is good, but it's risky, and it doesn't give them much defense if the tour directors ask them why they played exhibition matches when the players complain about too short of an off season.

I really like the idea of having bigger breaks between the larger tournaments. The only thing about that is there will be certain players who find exhibitions to play and still have injuries.

they just need to know that if they are injured, then they should just take a break, and theres no need to go play an exhibition....

This is a very hard question to answer. I don't think there is any real way to do this. You are dealing with professional athletes who some not only see themselves as invincible, but what they do is how they support themself, especially those players in the lower rankings. So lowering the amount of required tournaments or giving players larger breaks between tournaments would not really work. The players would still find ways to play and practice. And there is no way to stop them from doing that unless they really hurt themself, which you never want to see an athlete have that happen.

Yes, that's why Federer's right: you have to select your tournaments properly and smartly.

Why do so many more women skip out on big tournaments than men? The Nasdaq was a good example of this. Only 1 top 10 men's player (agassi) and most of the top 50, while 3 of the most prominent AMERICAN players (davenport, WS) failed to show up and tons of the top 50 not going. Also at the Family Circle, why only Justine HH is there from the top 6 or 7, at a Tier 1 event!?

I'm not sure. However, the men usually attempt to make an attempt to make both Indian Wells and Miami, while a lot of the WTA pick one to attend.
