What a terrible end to the championships. Mauresmo double faulted on MP.

Well, congratulations Justine on your title. Too bad Mauresmo double-faulted on match point, but I think Justine's title is well deserved... she was arguably better than Mauresmo all season long with the exclusion of when they played against each other, which was often the most important times. Too bad her AO/Fed Cup withdrawals will tint her seaon.

No she wasn't. It is most certainly not well deserved. How was she better than Mauresmo all year-long?

In the consistancy department, which the rankings award. A bit unfortunate, the rankings should really award more for Slam winners, not just consistant people.

Well, next year the WTA won't have this problem, I am almost certain Mauresmo would be year-end no. 1 with the new rankings, because Grand Slams are worth so much. Actually, no, Justine probably still would be on top since she did so well in all 4.

Don't winners get 1000 points now? And the final points I think aren't raised as much. So I think Mauresmo would still have been #1. Quite unfortunate though, AO winner, Wimby winner, YEC final ends the year #3.

I'd say in the consistancy department JHH was better than Mauresmo but not by to much. But Mauresmo head to head this season excluding the YEC was better than JHH.

I think Mauresmo does deserve the Year-End number 1. She has played better tennis than JHH, she has held the number 1 for practically all the year except the few weeks Lindsay had it Crying or Very sad , and Clijsters between Feb and March). Consistency doesn't really tell much about who should be number 1. Mauresmo put in more top class performances this year than JHH, and 2 slams over 1 slam is important.

I am suprised in a good way that there were no pull-outs!

I am glad that Raymond/Stosur defended their title. They had the best year by far!

The way the rankings were structured this year really benefited the people who were very consistant, made SFs, QFs all the time. Which is why Sharapova is #2 and Amelie got bumped down to #3.

Yes, but I think the best player of 2006 was Mauresmo which is why she should be number 1.

Yes, I do too. They should award more points for GS winners. They're planning on doing that next year, but the people who do well at the beginning will have very inflated rankings.
