I wonder whether he was wearing his 'lucky' shirt today.... _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself
Davydenko might never win a GS title but he represents all that's right with tennis. He's a big time overachiever who's found a way to consistently win by using his strenghts, getting in great shape, and competing hard core throughout the year. It's amazing that a guy that slender can compete with some of the big guys on the tour but he doesn't get pushed around that often on the court. I remember his match against Fed at the AO where he had set pts to send it to 5 and thought this guy isn't a fluke, he's really talented. He proved it at the USO and he's had a tremendous fall. This was probably his career yr. but it's nice to see a tennis player out play more talented opponents on a consistent basis.
Very good post as usual beachjm. I think he could win a GS. But the 2 names in the way are Nadal and Federer. Not only does he play a ton for himself but he plays for his country in Davis Cup. He make's time from his busy money making tennis career to play for his country. That says alot espcially for a player that really relishes the money in tennis. _________________

I don't think Davydenko will ever win a Slam. He is not good enough to beat Federer, Nadal, Roddick (on any surface besides clay), Nalbandian (when he is playing well), Ljubicic, and the rest of the top names. He is a good player, yes, but not a player who beats top 5 players when they are at their best. _________________

I appreciate Davydenko's will and his patriotism, but I agree with PSALT: I don't think he has what it takes. He has the work ethic and the heart, but talent-wise, I would be really surprised if he won the AO or Roland Garros.... _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself
I think Davydenko is a fantastic player. I am really pleased that he won this title, it confirms his position as a top player. He has had a great year and his game is always developing. He is the number 3 player in the world. I think he can beat anyone ranked below him right now. I really like his work ethic and his ambitisous attitude. He is not satisfied with being number 3, he wants to challenge Federer and Nadal. Roddick, Nalbandian and Ljubicic all failed to make any sort of challenge to them, but Davydenko has the right attitude to go even further. I would not be suprised to see him win or get to the finals of the A.Open or French Open sometime.
