this is a suprise? Sharapova has a history of ugly outfits, from her maternity outfit at the Aussie, her should-be-on-the-red-carpet-not-a-tennis-court outfit at the USO, and then this one.

The USO one actually looked nice in my opinion. This one doesn't look nice no matter where she wears it.

it looked like she should have been on the runway, it did not look like a tennis outfit

Tennis has been modernised PSALT, I think the days of "tennis outfit" are long gone. Where what the hell you want at the US Open seems to be the common standpoint and at least Sharapova looked very nice, unlike another superstar who opted for a "catwalk" or, rather, "catwoman" outfit...

Tough loss there. Is it me or is Zvonareva gotten more mentally tough? She seems to be pulling off some good wins.

BTW, Sharapova's outfit looks like a pair of pajama's

Indeed, Vera's pulling some quality wins these days. She still looks like an emotional player though. Nice to see her have some nice wins these days.

And Maria's outfit needs to be at least 3 sizes smaller and the print looks terrible.

Sharapova is no where near the tackiness of Serena (who was voted as the worst dressed celebrity in some magazine this week), but I do agree with what Kuznetsova said about her at the 05 AO, she acts like she is a model on court too much.

I don't care too much about the outfits unless they are really awful. I like the fact that players ware different things (well at least on the WTA tour). It's just another thing to add to the entertainment of this sport. Of course the tennis is more important, but it makes it more boring and is not a good image for the sport when everyone is in all white.

Anyway onto the Kremlin Cup, both of my picks have lost! This was the last time I picked Kuznetsova, she is far too inconsistent, almost like a female version of Safin. Youzhny is also annoying me a bit. I have picked him for the last 2 weeks and he hasen't even won a match. I would have thought is US Open semi was a confidence boost and he would do really well on the indoor courts which suit his game really well.

Youzhny can be an up and down sort of player too....

Me too, both picks went out, Kuznetsova and Tursunov. Rolling Eyes I thought you picked Mauresmo Dave? Confused

I am really enjoying Zvonereva this year. Kuznetsova is so strange to me. Some really wierd losses. I love the fact so many russian women are still in it though, it's scary.
And Sharapova did look pretty bad. Oh well, at least she can win her first-rounders.

Oh I did pick Mauresmo, well she's in trouble aswell against Vesnina.

Dementieva and Schnyder both came through tough matches to reach the QF. Chakvetadze, Vaidisova and Petrova are also through.

At the Bangkok Open, Aiko Nakamura, who reached the final in Tokyo last week, ended the career of Mariana Diaz-Olive in the 2nd round. Diaz-Oliva played her first matches in 1991, and reached a career-high of 41 in 2001. She won 1 WTA title in her career.

She survived though, Vaidisova should be much tougher, but I think Mauresmo will play better. She usually does not have a bad 2 days in a row.

Vaidisova-Mauresmo is very interesting to me, since I really cannot let myself choose one over the other. For one, Vaidisova had a convincing win today and Mauresmo struggled to a third set tiebreak, which lets me lean towards Vaidisova more, plus the mental side with the french open mishap. However Mauresmo is the #1 and will want revenge for that dissapointing loss as well. I pick Vaidisova though.

other picks for tommorow....
Chakvedtadze over Sharapova since Anna has been playing really really well lately, and Sharapova has been out for a while.

Schnyder over Dementieva I think Elena will not make it through this, she had to save match point and that will be taxing on her body tommorow. Schnyder did go to three but still, I just see Patty taking this one.

Zvonereva over Petrova - vera has really been on lately, and Petrova has had a lot of matches lately. Z will go the distance.

Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the event with either a hip injury or a right foot sprain. BBC says hip, but the WTA website says foot. I don't know who to believe, here is the BBC link,

Apparently, right foot because she said she couldn't walk. Vaidisova did beat Mauresmo 1-6, 7-5, 7-6.
