Sorry Tennis Fan, I have to post again. Is that okay with you??

Anyway, Shame for Roddick, but obviously, unless there was a miracle, or Federer was run over by a freight train, Roddick probably wasnt going to win a GS Final over Federer.

And Xdoublea, I get CBS out here in the boonies! Why dont you??

What if Roddick had started off in the first set really strong. Maybe, just maybe, he could have beat Federer.
But wth Federer is awesome.
Glad to see Roddick has matured mentally. Always had the shots.

Oh! you can post all you like! Just don't use profanity! Wink

Anyhow, I do like your new avatar. I thought it was really funny and Sharapova handled it nicely by laughing it off. Very Happy
If that happened to that cold-as-ice Belgian finalist, it would have been an akward moment...

Btw, did you see when they showed that something similar happened with McEnroe when he lifted the USO trophy many years ago?

Lol, yes I saw that, Sharapova was pretty good at laughing it off, it was nice.
Good thing that cold-as-ice Belgian will never get the chance to do that again! Razz

Andy Roddick's road to the final was actually somewhat lucky. Not only he survived two 5-setters with lower ranked opponents, he also never faced anyone ranked higher than no 15 (Hewitt) until he got to the final. Luck was on his side... With all that said, he had a very very good match against Hewitt and also beat the Spaniards'-killer Youzhny.

Btw I heard that Spanish tennis fans have put their differences aside and have posted a bounty on Youzhny's racket!! Shocked

I thought the Roddick-Fed final was eerily similar to last yrs. Open final and also this past Wimbledon. 2 very high quality sets followed by 2 sets of domination by Fed. Why Roddick didn't come out better is beyond me, and boy did he fold after losing the 5-6 game in the 3rd. He had Fed sweating and he dropped the ball. But I'm very happy for Federer-8 GS titles in 3 yrs, that has to be a record!
Sharapova showed me something too. Now that she's not a 1 hit wonder, I could see her winning 7-8 majors in her career. I mean who's really going to challenge her. There's only like 3-4 rivals and a lot of them are injury prone or soon will be out of their prime.
Overall a great Open but last yrs. was a bit better with Agassi making that incredible run. Only 4 months to Australia.

I think it may have took a while for Roddick to actually believe he was in a garnd slam final, and Federer came out firing. It's a shame he didn't hold on a bit more, but we all expected Federer to raise his game in the key moments and he did. This is his 9th slam by the way, he is now 6th on the all-time list ahead of Jimmy Connors and Andre Agassi.

Had to write one more thing that I've noticed about Roddick for a long time. Now Mary Joe Fernandez certainly isn't the greatest sideline reporter (I mean who is in that worthless job), but Roddick was such an ass to her before and after his win against Youznhy. This is a guy who thinks he's the next Rodney Dangerfield and he's not funny at all, just sarcastic in a very strange way. He tries to be a tough guy in a sport like tennis, and Andy it's not working. McEnroe and Connors could act like jerks but at least they were being themselves. Why doesn't the bias American tennis media (who's so desperate for someone to win majors) realize what a complete jerk and phoney Roddick is. He's okay when he's winning but he resorts to whining like a little baby when things don't go his way. I think he's one of the biggest cry babies in the pampered world of pro tennis. I've always felt with Roddick, even after winning the '03 Open, that he's a hard guy to like 'cause he comes off as such a smart-ass and phoney. Federer, Nadal, etc. are class guys, even when they have to put up with the stupid questions from the media. I enjoyed nothing better on this past greats sports weekend than Federer destroying Roddick in the 4th set. I also don't think this partnership between Connors-Roddick will last that long. People forget that Gilbert was a great coach and he was telling Roddick the same things that Connors is telling him now. How long did that union last, 1.5-2 yrs? Connors got more face time than practically anyone non-American playing this yr. which isn't right. Roddick should be a top 5 player and he'll challenge at some of the majors but let's not get carried away now. He still has a lot of holes in his game and his volleying technique often resembles a train wreck.

It is a well accepted fact, even outside of the US, that Roddick has one of the best personalities in the game. I truly don't see how you, having never met him, can decide if he is fake or not. Your entire post comes off seeming like a rant. Also, Federer is only classy when he wins. When he loses he makes excuses and puts down the person he lost to, a la Nadal.

Well, let's put it this way: both Roddick and Federer are cocky, in my opinion. Roddick sometimes tries to be funny but ends up arrogant, and Federer just doesn't no how to be a nice loser....

With his win, Federer has clinched the year end World Number 1 ranking.

If you think Roddick is a classy guy but Federer isn't than I don't know what sport you've been following. I've never heard Fed use excuses after he loses. He's given Nadal credit in the past but probably also realizes he should probably beat him more often than not. Roddick has rarely taken the blame for the weaknesses in his game. He's sacked 4 coaches in the last 3 yrs., when they've all told him what things he needs to work on. I guess you've bought into the ridiculous hype machine of Roddick. Roddick is a good to very good player. Federer is a great one, nearing legend status. Federer will do amazing things once his career is over. Roddick might do some special things too, but he comes off like a spoiled brat way too often on the court when things don't go his way. This isn't opinion, it's been clear to people who've watched both of these men through out their careers. You can cheer for the overrated Roddick as much as you want. I'm sticking with guys like Federer and Nadal, who are much more than a big serve and forehand. Hate to break it to you, but a lot of people in Europe and all over the world can't stand Roddick either. It's just in this country, which really doesn't get tennis anymore, that they adore him for some reason.

Well, certainly, I respect the games of Federer and Nadal much more than that of Roddick, but I'm just saying, Federer has made some bad excuses when explaining why he lost. Just for the record though, we all think Roddick just doesn't listen to coaches. I'm sure the four previous coaches to Roddick all told him stuff Connors told him. Just Connors is Connors. I'm not sure we actually have a real Roddick fan on this board....
