Your thoughts on a different type of fantasy tennis...So far, Fantasy Tennis has been doing well. However, it is not really a "fantasy tennis" league, but more of a picking or prediction league. I was thinking of starting something completely different; something completely fiction, where members can become a player who plays on a mock tour, competing against other members over an entire mock season of tournaments. I would make the entire schedule up, but the points for tournaments would be the same as in real professional tennis. You would be able to train and improve the certain areas in your game of your choice, and matches would be computed by me using probability factors. This is not a graphical game, and you would not actually participate in any of your matches.
Here is the summary of ideas so far:
-Mock tennis career with a full season of tournaments.
-Ability to train, improving skills of your choice.
-Full rankings for the all participating members with exact round-point values (WTA points, for it's simplicity).
These are aspects that would add much realism to the game, but may not come through
*-Prize money for use in the game.
-Ability to buy equipment and/or training.
*Fame for players in the game.
-Interviews (???)
*Some computer players to make the tour larger and more realistic (so that there can be many different levels or tiers for tournaments).
Note: This would not replace the current picking game.
What are everyone's thoughts on this? Questions? Suggestions?

hmmm....this sounds fun if it is what i think it is.....so do u actually play a competerized character?? and win tournaments?? and for the league we have now, i think it would be nice if we had a ranking system like the WTA....like next year, we would have to defend the points and stuff.....

Yes, you "are" the player and you can train to improve your skills, while entering tournaments. You do not actually play your matches; they are computed.
As for our current picking league, there will be no points to defend next year, since it's completely different than real tennis. Points will be reset at the end of the year.

Nope. One league for the whole forum.

Once I hear from more people and we select our ideas, I have to set it all up. It should begin right after that.

ok, thanx it seems that it will be fun...

Its a great idea, but I am confused on how the matches would actually be played.

It would basically be up to chance. You do not play your matches, I compute them based on your skill levels. Obviously someone with better skills is oing to have a better chance of winning, but it depends on the surface, your strengths and your opponents weaknesses, and chance.

Wow this sounds amazing. I think I get what its like, and it sounds like it would be a ton of fun. One question though, wouldn't it take a lot of time for you to do all of this?

how would one player be better than the other??? will we have to go through some training exerscise or what???????????????

Yes, you train your player. It says all of that above. Not graphically, but you would have a certain number of things your could practice each day or each week, and you would select what you wished to train.

Interesting. I do like it. One question though, would there be an element of randomness to it. In real tennis the best players don't always win. In Monta Carlo Gasquet beat Federer. Gasquet certainetly isn't better than Federer. So in this game I think it would be quite boring for the better player to always win.

Yes, that is the whole point. It is all random. Obviously if your skills are better you have a better chance at winnig, but its really up to luck. Once you enter a tournament, all you can do is wait and cross your fingers.

| leftys_rock wrote: | | but we see scores right?? |
Yes. Not while the match is being played, but you see the resulting scores. Since we do not have many members, there will be many computer players as well, and they will probably all start ahead of the "real" people both rankings and skill wise.
|

so like the computer players will have our names and stuff??

| leftys_rock wrote: | | so like the computer players will have our names and stuff?? |
Yes, they will have everything you have, except I'm not sure if they will train/improve. So they may start ahead of you, but will eventually be surpassed. This is still under debate in my mind.

like ahead of me as in my level of play right?? and can we tell our players to have a one handed backhand, have good movement etc??

You don't just "tell" your players to do things. There will be a whole system set up, don't worry.

ok thx, i hope it starts soon!!

It sounds very good. Quick question though...how do you gain points to add to your abilities/training etc? By winning tournaments etc...of course, but at the beginning say, will we all start with SOME points or none at all?
Also, is there NO real professional player input what so ever? I think that this would be fine...as long as we maintain the Fantasy League we have now aswell, and play both.
It sounds great fun...

Your 1st question:
You will not gain skill points by winning, but by training. There will be a certain number of points or number of times that you can train per day or per week. At the beginning, yes everyone will start with 1 point for everything, except the computer players.
Your 2nd question:
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but the league will be comletely fictional, with all of the tournaments made up, except for the grand slams and the Masters at the season-end. And yes, our current fantasy tennis thing will continue, jsut have a different name.

This idea sounds fantastic. I'm not sure this has ever been initiated in any other forum. This sounds something like a Topspin format, and I think this will attract some new members too!

Percy, so if a player has a big serve, it would have a good chance of winning on grass ???
Also, the other fantasy tennis will remain active ?

Ye, Percy you that answers my questions thanks.
Well, I think it's a great idea, cannot do any harm in trying it, eh?
Sooner the better...for me.

Yes, and yes. Obviously your skills will be more useful on different surfaces. So yes, a big serve helps much more on grass than on clay.

so are the skills randomly chosen?? or do u pick??

| leftys_rock wrote: | | so are the skills randomly chosen?? or do u pick?? |
It's explained in my post. You train every day or week, picking what you wish to train.

This is a little off-topic and there is probably no point in making a new topic.
Percy would it be easier to have seperate rankings for ATP and WTA events in the fantasy tennis?

I'm excited for this new Fantasy Tennis to start up.
However, I think 'Prediction Game' isn't as attractive as the old 'Fantasy Tennis', so perhaps the prediction game can be named something like Fantasy Pool and the new tour simulation be named Fantasy Tour? Just an idea.
