YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT AOwhat will happen?? who do you think will win??
|
Agassi2000
|
I think for the men, Federer is the obvious favorite. This could also be Nalbandian's big chance to win his first grand slam. Nadal is also another favorite to win the title. His game suits well for the slower courts in Australia. For the women, Clijsters or Pierce should take the title. Venus is another pick, but the courts are awfully slow for her taste.

for the women i'm looking at pierce venus ,clijters, and sharapova.
think that pierce will have helped her mental toughness (or whatever it is that is an obstacle for winning) in the off season to help her stop chocking in big matches.
venus i think has a good chance because of her groundstrokes and her serve which is pretty good.
clijters is favorite because she plays great defense which can wear on oppoents in the hot summer hit at AO.
sharapova is a good player no doubt. but she has had some problems LATE in the season. expect her and every player to try to start off the year right and play their best. on the playing aspect her serve and big groundies, which will help.

Mauresmo did just beat Maria at the Tour Championships. It depends on whether Mauresmo can keep her mental game straight.

We will see. I wish mauresmo to play well and do better than maria. She just needs to grow up a bit and realize she is not the best one out there. I guess its just her age and her huge amounts of media attention.

There's still a month to go until the AO starts but right now this is who I like.
Men's Top contenders-Federer, Nadal, Hewitt, Nalbandian
Federer is the big favorite but Nadal and Nalbandian could challenge him. People aren't talking about Hewitt, possibly because he hasn't played in a while. I think he's another wildcard. Could go far like last year and do well in front of his people. But could lose early/be slightly distracted or not focused due to his new baby girl. I think he'll do well.
Women's Top contenders-Clijsters, Davenport, Sharapova, V. Williams
Clijsters is my favorite. The other three could win the title if they play consistent, stay healthy, and win that one big match they need to, be it if it's in the quarters, semis, or final round. Hard to call with all the injuries/confusion in the women's game right now.

Oh well, I just wrote that this is an interesting forum that seems to deal with tennis related topics, and not all the other worthless stuff.

She was creamed by serena in the quarters last year. No, I do not think she will win a slam this year, but she has a much better chance than she did last year, after her breakthrough at the tour championships in november.

Maybe they are trying to stretch it out a bit to give players some time to rest.

ya how warm does it get on court in australia?? i would have hated to be fed or sharapova last year in the SF....being so damn tired and playing ur best and it being so warm around u and losing the match...with the match going overtime too...

i bet it can get in the 100's

wouldnt u feel bad if u were fed or sharapova in the SF and getting so close to a final and losing while holding match points and facing the heat?? yeah probably i would even feel tired being in the crowd...

What did you guys think of the AO overall? I thought this major overall was pretty good. Baghdatis, Hingis, and of course Mauresmo stole the show.
Too bad that 3 top men's players couldn't compete but overall the 2 wks of tennis was compelling and high quality.
A big thumbs down to JHH. Days later, I'm still stunned at what happened in the final. But in tennis you definitely have to take the good with the bad. Just wish there was some more good and less bad from now on.

I thought the AO was a good tournament this year. There were many upsets, a journeyman miracle, and good tennis overall. However, I'm a bit upset that Nadal, Agassi, and Safin wre not there to challenge Federer. I think those three would have potentially beaten Federer. Too bad all three of them suffered injuries last year.

nadal and aggasi would have a chance to stop federer. but safin has been out ofr a long time and i don't think he would have beaten federer

That's very valid. Nadal has Federer's number, and Agassi has the ability to beat Federer; it's just a matter of getting a tiny bit of help from Federer and himself and conserving energy for their matches.

If Agassi plays Federer like he did in the second set of the US Open final, he can definitely have a chance of really beating Federer this year at least once.
