One of the best violin concertos, and one of the most technically murderous. Shocked Who's playing?

I'm listening to the ending of Rigoletto (Verdi).

yes, I love it. I can't say it is my absolute favorite violin concerto, but it's up there.

I have a Best of Tchaikovsky album with it on it, but today I listened to it on Sirius radio. I like the latter better, but my CD is Klaus Stein on the violin, with the Berlin Symphonic Orchestra.

She's never been a favourite of mine. She was alright when she first started out, but then her 'Stripped' album was a disaster with only a few good songs. She's alright now, but I don't like the way she tries to change her style all the time, she doesn't always get it right.

I have the Anne-Sophie Mutter 2006 version. She's probably the most gifted violinist in recent memory, but her interpretation of classical music is getting rather queer nowadays....

Listening to Il Trovatore by Verdi, sung by Callas at La Scala.

Well, operas are usually 2-3 hours long. Of course, some person named Wagner once decided to write an opera six hours long. Shocked He also wrote this epic 'Ring Cycle', consisting of four operas, totalling over 14 hours in running time. Suor Anglica's short... slightly under an hour.
leftys_rock

I wouldn't have time unless on weekends. Laughing
x.doublea

No one ever listens to the entire cycle in a day or two... unless they're matyrs for Wagner. Doing the actual cycle at one go is seldomly done either (by one go, I mean all four performed once over a week's time). I actually was on the verge of falling asleep once watching the last one (Gotterdammerung). There was a period of ten minutes of mediocre music in PURE DARKNESS. Shocked

Maria Callas is an incredible opera singer who lived a more incredible life being the lifetime secret (no so secret) girlfriend of then world's richest man Aristo Onasis. Exclamation

back to the topic...

x.doublea

I occasionally listen to ballads... they're quite nice. I know that there's a part in Otello which qualifies as a ballad. I'm going to start singing to German lieder, which is somewhat similar, except they're not about religious or historical events....
