Who will do well at the USO (WTA)?Similar question to the ATP poll:
Who will do well at the US Open not including Mauresmo, Justin Henin Hardene and Sharapova?

If her injury is healed in the first week, then Lindsay is one of the main favourites for the title. Sharapova, Mauresmo and JHH are not straightforward gurantees to do well. Davenport has got some form back and is stil improving. Others include Ivanonovic, Safina and Hingis. I have severe doubts for Sharapova and Mauresmo doing very well, and JHH has a very suspect US Open record in the past excluding 2003.

Depends on her inury like Dav said. But I think she know it's coming to an end ( her tennis career) and will try her very hardest in beating everyone in her way and win the USopen. We know at her best she can beat the likes of Sharapova Mauresmo and JHH. Serena is also like that but she is still not there like Davenport

injury healed Davenport will want this title more than anything. She played extremely well at the Pilot Pen, taking out a rustless Mauresmo and stopping Stosur who was playing out of her mind. She can beat anyone on tour when she is at her best and keeps her head, not doing the latter is the ONLY reason the likes of Sharapova have even got a set of her.
People her have said that Sharapova has struggles because she is now a favorite, where has she been as big of a favorite as she is now? She is the frontrunner, she will choke like she has has always done since after the '04 Wimbledon.

I think Davenport is not happy with people saying this is her end. Just last year she was the top ranked player, and if injury didn't strike her this year she would probably still be there. She is still at the top of the game and has confirmed she will play next year. I think her career is still in a very good position. I think she is not getting the credit she deserves right now.

I actually would not bet against a Sharapova/Henin-Hardenne final(I know you guys will absolutely abhor the prospect should it happen ). For all we know, could Sharapova be heading to her first final since her 04 Wimbledon? Or will Amelie prevail over her tough draw to get to the final and possibly win her 3rd GS? Will Lindsay be healthy enough to make what may be one of her last runs? Will Henin win her second slam this year?
Of course, we cannot forget the pattern of: Mauresmo loses early in AO tune-up. Henin wins it. Henin loses in final to Mauresmo; Mauresmo loses early in Wimby tune-up. Henin wins it. Henin loses in final to Mauresmo; Mauresmo loses(relatively, but maybe with a different draw, it would not be the same) early to USO tune-up. Henin wins it...We can attempt to fill in the blank.

I wouldn't think Mauresmo could win the US Open, not because she's incapable, but because she doesn't really like the atmosphere of Flushing Medows. She's somewhat like Borg- both abhor the frenzy, pumped-up crowd atmosphere, and the lights during the night. I think, if she's to lose, she'll lose because this sort of stuff gets into her head....

I think that Serena will do better than any other American (including Linsdsay). I have a feeling that she will beat Anna Ivanovic in the 3rd round, Amelie Mauresmo in the 4th round and Hingins in the QF. Then loose to Maria Sharapova in the SF.
We will have the dreaded final of JHH versus Sharapova and JHH will prevail. Btw, I don't particularly like Serena but I think she will do well.
Hmm.... maybe I should have bet some money on this scenario, but then again I wouldn't know where to start since I know nothing about sports betting.
I excluded Amelie, JHH and Sharapova, not becuase I am saying they will all make the SF. I just wanted to see who do you think will make it beyond expectations.
BtW I forgot that Venus was out

BtW I forgot that Venus was out | Well that's not to far fetched. She is capable of doing it, (maybe not this early in her comeback). But it will be tough. She will have to be on her game. At at least expect her to come thourgh in a couple of rounds. She's been beating players like that all season

Well, after seeing part of Davenport's match, I think Serena's chances of being the best female-American in the US Open is slim...Davenport's shots look extremely strong and I now expect a deep run made by her.

I must agree x.doublea. Linsday was very good today and she seemed to have overcome her injury. So She WILL do good.
Albeit, I still think that Serena will also do good.

A Davenport-Henin quarter is now looking great, I can't remember the last time they played when both were healthy (I better not jinx it!).

This list excludes Sharapova, Mauresmo and JHH. I am looking for who do you think will go beyond expectations.
In another post, I predicted that Sharapova will play JHH in the final.
Here is my prediction: Serena beats Ivanovic then Mauresmo then Hingins (oh well! she's gone ) and then looses to Sharapova in the SF
