where to add lead tape?

where do i add lead tape if i wanted more power???
x.doublea

It depends. Some people like it at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, some like it at the 1 and 11 o'clock position, and some like it at the 12 o'clock position. I think you should experiment with each and see which one you like more; but just to tell you, most people end up choosing the 3 and 9 o'clock positions.
Benchwarmer1

do they put it there for more stability and power, or just power itself?

thanks i read that at the TW larning center.

Benchwarmer1- lead tape adds stablity and power. it can also increase the sweet spot

x.doublea

Yes, lead tape can add stability, power, or increase the sweet spot. From what I know, putting the lead tape at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions pulls ths sweet spot wider, putting it at he 6 o'clock position pulls it downwards. However, lead tape create too much of a head heavy balance, so putting it underneath the handle is also an option.
J-man

thanks i'm getting some lead tape toninght
Benchwarmer1

you know how on TW it says 4 pts. head light, what exactly does it mean (yes i'm a noob)
x.doublea

The 4 points head light means that that racquet is slightly head light; that is, the racquet's head is slightly lighter than the racquet's handle. Usually, racquets around the 10 to 11 ounce range have balances from 5 points Head Heavy to 5 points Head Light. Racquets that are around 12 ounces are often over 10 Points Head Light, and racquets around 9 ounces are often over 10 Points Head Heavy.
kk

If I only want to change the weight (not the dynamics) of the stick...where do I put the tape?????
x.doublea

Probably underneath the grip, but that would change the balance.
J-man

i bought some lead tape last friday and placed 2 strips on each 3 and 9 o'clock postions. it works well.
x.doublea

Yes, that is the most popular position.
Benchwarmer1

where would you put lead tape if you wanted to get a larger sweetspot, but without changing balance?
x.doublea

It's pretty tough to put lead tape anywhere without changing the balance....
Benchwarmer1

i guess thats out of the question
x.doublea

The Instinct should have a huge sweet already....
Benchwarmer1

why?
x.doublea

You know the bumps on the racquet in the grey areas? Well, that's supposed to expand the sweetspot.

Here are all the technologies in the Instinct:

LiquidMetal®
Developed by the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), LiquidMetal® alloy provides 29% more power than Titanium. Just as its name implies, LiquidMetal® alloy is different from conventional materials because of its liquid (or "amorphous") atomic structure. This means that LiquidMetal® alloy does not deform on impact, resulting in ultimate energy return.

Head places LiquidMetal® at four strategic areas of the racquet's head, integrated in the main layer of the frame's construction. This allows all of the energy from ball impact to be used for a power return - so what a player puts into his or her swing is exactly what they get out. The result is what Head calls Pure Energy. Perfect Power™

Total Sweetspot Construction
Total Sweetspot Construction increases torsional stability in the racquet head and extends the sweetspot throughout the entire racquet head, resulting in ultimate control.
TWINTUBE Technology

FEATURE:
The inner hard shell of TwinTube technology is made of pure graphite. The outer shell consists of soft, absorbing polyamide.

BENEFIT:
Increased ball acceleration combined with better, overall
Benchwarmer1

are the bump things added weight?
x.doublea

Sort of...sort of like integrated lead tape customized for the racquet....
Benchwarmer1

i really love my racquet, i played with it again today and i feel like no lead tape is needed, i just brought that up because i thought i had needed it

No offense but i think it's bull
Benchwarmer1

i would think that too, just b/c it looks weird
x.doublea

I don't know...works for me. Very Happy
Benchwarmer1

same here
x.doublea

Yes, he uses a Radical. Strange....
Benchwarmer1

that's what i was about to say Confused
Benchwarmer1

x.doublea, if you could choose a racquet from another company, what would it be?
x.doublea

Um, that's a hard question... probably the Prince NXG Graphite or the Diablo Mid....
Benchwarmer1

sounds good, i almost got my dad a diablo
x.doublea

The Diablo is VERY similar to the Prestige...besides the string pattern and that the Prestige has an aura around it in which the Diablo doesn't....
Benchwarmer1

yes, it also has a history of being great
Benchwarmer1

would it be a good idea to make a new topic about what racquets other people would choose from other companies
x.doublea

Yes, in terms of greatness, of course, I would consider it the greatest, but I think most consider the Wilson Prostaff 85 the greatest Crying or Very sad , since Sampras, Courier, Evert, and Edberg used it....
Benchwarmer1

but the prestige probably takes second
leftys_rock

its a nice racquet i think......it has nice pop on the strings....the thing is, i dont like the frame that much......
x.doublea

Yes...however, I think more people use the Prestige Original than the ProStaff 85 Original now....
Benchwarmer1

I hear the PSO 85 is very demanding, because of the head size
x.doublea

Yes, 85 square inches is tough...but I think the Prestige is equally as demanding...however, in terms of feel, I'm pretty sure they're opposite.
Benchwarmer1

if those racquets are first and second, then what are third and fourth
x.doublea

Um, I would say the Prince Original and (I forgot about this) the racquet Wilson made which was the first non-wood racquet.

x.doublea, where is the topic J-man is referring to?
x.doublea

I'm not sure actually...if there is one I've never seen it.
Benchwarmer1

should i start one?
x.doublea

Sure, I think it's a good idea. Smile
Benchwarmer1

ok i'll make it now!

How not to change the balance while adding lead tape...

Full Disclosure / Disclaimer - I haven't done this yet, so my knowledge is still all-theory:

If you add 1 strip each at, say, 3 and 9 'o' clock, then you ought to add 2 strips in the handle (by opening the buttcap, sticking the lead tape inside and putting the buttcap back on).

This ensures that the overall balance is not changes and lead tape is added only to improve upon the stability and also simultaneously increase/modify the sweetspot.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
