All over the news today there is coverage about the shootings at Virigina Tech University. I don't know how it is for you guys elsewhere but it's dominating the news cast here in Northern VA.

It's sad, because this sort of thing is starting to occur more and more. Just here in Canada (Montreal, if I recall), one person was killed in a shooting in a university. So sad.... Crying or Very sad

What does Chinese have to do with anything? Pulling a trigger is just as easy for a Chinese person as it is for a white person or a black person.

The shooter was Chinese that's what it has to do. Don't play the race card, please. He's not trying point people out. I for one was surprise. I heard that the shooter would write stories for classes that had goobs and goobs of violence. Even being reffered to VT staff.

No, but what does the fact that he is South Korean have to do with anything? Just the fact that he shot so many innocent people is horrifying, no matter what race he is.

I was just surprised to hear that he was Asian (initially reported as chinese) because it is atypical. I don't think that there has ever being another mass shooting involving an Asian. This was in no way meant to be directed against the race. In fact, I would be more worried about my own race which has been involved in probably 100% of all past mas shootings.

There was no intent to play the "race" card. I was just reporting facts and that I was personally surprised.

Actually you weren't just sharing facts j-man you put a shocked smiley as you said it; obviously conveying your surprise at hearing the killer was South Korean, or Chinese as you thought.

I admit I was/am surprised too...hard to explain; probably innate racial stereotypes at work but it is a shock to discover a South Korean killing people, whether you want it to be or not...

I also feel really bad for the South Koreans who are looking towards immigrating to the US... I am sure they are going to make qualifications to become a citizen much more difficult.
