You guys are ABSURD...Hewitt would be top of my list, perhaps below Safin, but nobody else. His two-handed backhand is INCREDIBLE. Significantly better than Johansson's and Davydenko's although I do like Nalbandian's.

OMG I knew I was forgetting someone on the mens side. Lol, hes kinda out of the picture now though so its understandable. He would probably rank third on my list now.

Yes but so is Agassi and he was number 1 on someone's list. And did anyone see Nadal v Hewitt? Hmmm...that backhand was looking good enough to eat to me!

No I mean I forgot him because hes out of the picture, but remembered agassi because he was at the top of PSALTS list I read.

Aaaaaa, I see! Sorry. Yes, it always amazes me; there was a topic like this over at CP and I was the only who mentioned Hewitt there!

I have always seen Hewitt's backhand as a weakness. His forehand is usually his more sure shot in my opininon. I would never have considered it to be in the top 5 though.

Are you having a LAUGH? Download Hewitt V Nadal...that should change your mind. His backhand has always been his best shot, it is even rated better on Top Spin...while this means NOTHING it just goes to show that a lot of people rate it better. His passing backhand is incredible; the best in the game IMHO. I cannot believe you said that...

I was very suprised to see Topspin rate it as the best backhand there. I don't think there is any better shot of Hewitt's then his passing and running forehand. I saw the Nadal v Hewitt match and Hewitt was playing very well. I think his forehand though is better. I have never heard of his backhand as being rated as the best. His groundstrokes are his weapons, but if he had a top 5 shot it would be his forehand, surely.

I think both Safin and Agassi have better backhands. Hewitt has a very precise backhand, great for passing shots. Agassi and Safin can pass slightly worse than Hewitt, but both can blow you off the court with their backhand. Something Hewitt doesn't quite have the power to do as well as them.

I don't think Hewitt's backhand is close to Agassi's or Safin's. There's not enough juice in it. I say Agassi has probably the cleanest backhand ever, and Safin's has so much pace and spin it's not funny. Hewitt's backhand might be precise, but from what I've seen, Agassi's is pretty precise....

No way, his backhand is definitely his best shot. His backhand is impeccably consistent and his better on the defence than both Agassi's and Safin's. Overall he has the best backhand in the game, but it comes down to individual opinion.
|
x.doublea

I think Hewitt's backhand is 'better' on the defense because his topspin backhand is slow, and is sort of like the speed of Agassi's slice...but I guess you have a point. I just feel it lacks the sting Agassi's or Safin's has. As well, I think Hewitt's backhand, as well as his forehand, looks really unnatural, sort of lacking the flow Agassi's or Safin's has.

Yes, like I said, as with most "who has the best _____" it often comes down to individual opinion.

I don't think Hewitt's backhand is the best. It is a consistent shot to keep him in the rallies, does he ever create angles, mix up the pace with it? Not usually. His forehand is his shot that creates most of his points, not his backhand.

I just rewatched Hewitt's loss to Safina at Bercy in 2004, and I have to say, Safin was basically eating up Hewitt's backhand...but Hewitt's backhand was more consistant....

Yes but as of 2004. Also Safina Russina femine "a" I guess I'm spotting all the mistakes

Are you joking? Angles fly off his backhand all the time...mix up pace? Does Agassi? Not particularly. Does Safin? Not greatly. So that doesn't matter according to your list...
x.doublea, did you choose a match where Safin won? Hardly fair, if you are going to take that approach chose a match where Hewitt beats Safin also.

I don't believe that Hewitt's backhand is the shot he uses to create points. He uses every opportunity he gets to run around it and hit a forehand. His backhand is not as powerful as his forehand and the footwork isn't as good as the forehand. He often cramps the ball and gets way to near to the ball on the backhand. Agassi and Safin have better technique all around and their backhands are their key shots.

I disagree and your points about running around the backhand means diddly squat dav, and you should know this...here is why:
Henin does it. The inside-out forehand can be one of the easiest shots to hit a winner off, even if you have a great backhand; running around a forehand if you have the time means you are going for an impressive winner. Simple as that. Mauresmo also does it, even though her backhand is seemingly better.
Also, like I said, it is only your opinion that his forehand is better. I don't see though, how you could be more of an authority than the (more than one) people who took time to judge Hewitt's backhand the better for the Top Spin game; afterall they want to make it realistic as possible...I would sooner side with them than one random person.

I don't think Top Spin's opinions matter. Clay is faster than hard courts in the game, and almost as fast as grass. They are rarely right on anything. They also think Sharapova deserves 5 gold srars for movement (the best possible) and 3 for Volleys.

Movement? You are playing a different game to me...so forget about all of your comments. The game I play is pretty accurate and the thing about the courts is rubbish. The stars themselves might be ALL TOO POT...but the fact that they are creating it as accurate as possible, of course, and simply rate Hewitt's backhand better than his forehand says a lot to me, a hell of a lot.

No, they are not valid, because we are talking about a different game...you cannot say "the courts are this and that" and "they rate Sharapova's movement this" when that ISN'T the case on my game...movement doesn't even get a rating.

The tennis games mean nothing. It isn't real. They often have things that aren't the same as in real life.
Alot of players do like to run around the backhand, but not those with the best backhands. Ljubicic runs around the forehand alot of the time, as do alot of the WTA tour. Gasquet does it aswell. If Hewitt had that much confidence that his backhand was the best in the game, I don't think he would run around it as much as he does. He tries to take every return on the forehand.

Who cares if Hewitt has confidence in it? We are talking from our perspective. Everyone goes nuts for Henin's backhand...yet she herself rates her forehand more and moves round her backhand a lot of the time...Oh, suddenly her forehand is her better shot, yer right...pull the other one!
"The tennis games mean nothing". Right, can someone please pass me a drum? This is just not going through at all. I know they make mistakes. But how EASY is it for a team of analyss to sit down and decide whether somebody has a better forehand or a better backhand? Incredibly easy. You don't see any games rating Federer's backhand better than his forehand. They are trying to be as accurate as possible to create a better game; my point is they come to the informed judgement that Hewitt's backhand is a more dangerous weapon, this is not a random...lets give that one there 5 *...I do not care about the DETAIL, which could be wrong...I care about the principle: they put his backhand above his forehand, so do I, so do I.

my point was, that Top Spin easily sells out to make the more glamorous players better. Both Roddick and Sharapova are much better in all Top Spins 2 games. I assume you have Top Spin, I have never played it but the latest Top Spin games are matter just as much. In Top Spin two Hewitt's BH is better than his FH. I share that opinion too. I was just saying that Top Spin 2 should not be the foremost expert on this matter. Your point is not proven because they agree with you.

Not_Even_Amateur

PSALT, I fully understand where you are coming from...and I have never once even suggested my point is proven...have you seen how many times I have used the word opinion in this topic? The point ISN'T going to get proven, on either side...you cannot prove an opinion.
Hewitt isn't a glamorous player...much disliked so forget that. All I was saying is you cannot compare a different game and say "well it has this so it is not always true"...when those stats are not true for my game, that is all, that is all.

Also It's more natural for players to run around their backhands and hit a forehand. So running around your forehand to hit a backhand is very diffcult for some players so they don't do it. They go with instinct. So they run around their backhand. But these doesn't mean that their forehand is necssarily better than their forehand
