Tennis Magazine Stroke Analysis

For those of you Tennis Magazine subscribers, did you get the summer issue of the mag where they list different shots and players who do those the best. Do you agree with them or not? For those that didn't get it, here's the list:

First Serve: Maria Sharapova
Second Serve: Andy Roddick
Forehand: Rafeal Nadal and Lindsay Davenport
Backhand Drive:
One handed - Justine Henin-Hardenne
Double Handed - Andre Agassi
One Handed Backhand Slice: Martina Hingis and Roger Federer
Swinging Volley: Kim Clijsters
Forehand Volley: Taylor Dent
Backhand Volley: Amelie Mauresmo and Tim Henman

I disagree with some things. I think it is stupid to put men and women in the same thing, they should have done 1 for the men and 1 for the women. Maria Sharapova does not have a better first serve then Venus, Serena or Davenport. Davenport's backhand is better than her forehand, it is the best on the tour. I would say Mauresmo has a better BH slice than Hingis.

Re: Tennis Magazine Stroke Analysis

Here's what I think, using TENNIS Magazine style....

First Serve: Maria Sharapova Disagree- should be Federer for his disguise, power and spin combination....
Second Serve: Andy RoddickDisagree- should be Safin (when at his best) more consistant....
Forehand: Rafeal Nadal and Lindsay Davenport Disagree- should be Federer at the moment because it's so powerful and heavy
Backhand Drive:
One handed - Justine Henin-Hardenne Totablly Agree
Double Handed - Andre Agassi Totablly Agree
One Handed Backhand Slice: Martina Hingis and Roger Federer Disagree- should only Federer- so low
Swinging Volley: Kim Clijsters No sure....
Forehand Volley: Taylor Dent Maybe...Mauresmo's is pretty good too
Backhand Volley: Amelie Mauresmo and Tim Henman Perhaps Federer as well....

Men

First Serve- Karlovic, he didn't get 50something aces in one match for nothing
Second Serve- Roddick, he rarely double faults and stil gets good pop and spin on it
Forehand- Nadal, Federer hits it harder but his FH breaks down more often than Nadal's. Just look at the Rome final
One-Handed Backhand- Richard Gasquet- beautiful, he can crush winners with it
Two-Handed Backhand- Marat Safin- HUGE! When on the best backhand in tennis
One-Handed Backhand Slice- Roger Federer- stays deadly low
Swingin Volley- Rafael Nadal, he manages to put so much spin on it.
Forehand Volley- Taylor Dent
Backhand Volley- Tim Henman

Women

First Serve- Lindsay Davenport- huge with wonderful placement
Second Serve- Maria Sharapova- doesn't take much off but keeps a high percentage
Forehand- Justine Henin-Hardenne, hits it so hard, gets tons of winners off it
One-Handed Backhand- Mauresmo, comes over it as well as H-H yet slices better than Henin. Not to mention it is 10x prettier, Henin almost falls over when she hits hers
Two-Handed Backhand- Lindsay Davenport, HUGE is all I can say
One-Handed Slice Backhand- Mauresmo, IMO better than Federer's
Swinging Volley- Maria Sharapova, hits it very well, consistent
Forehand Volley- Mauresmo, best volley in tennis
Backhand Volley- *see "Forehand Volley"*

These are my opinions:

Men:

First Serve: Ljubicic- He has a very powerful and accurate serve with alot of variety, a very clever and effective serve.
Second Serve: Safin- Very consistant, hardly ever double-faults and has a huge kick. It is nearly as effective as a first serve.
Forehand: Federer- It is his best shot and one of the best of all time. Very powerful and consistant. A thing of beauty.
Backhand Drive:
One handed - Gaudio- Another beautiful shot and never misses. He can hit this backhand very hard for a one-hander. In attack and defense, he can always strike winners.
Double Handed - Agassi- Perfect technique and timing. He is very consistant and takes it on the rise perfectly.
One Handed Backhand Slice: Henman- As an approach shot down the line you can't get better than this. It stays very low and right in the corner.
Swinging Volley: Few men hit this shot, but Nadal does it alot. Alot of spin right in the corner. He won the French Open with this shot on match point.
Forehand Volley: Ljubicic- Great technique and drop volleys well.
Backhand Volley: Henman- A perfect volley. Puts alot of slice on it and puts it where he wants.

Women:

First Serve: Davenport- The most accurate serve. She gets herself in winning positions with it all the time. Her slice serve is deadly.
Second Serve: Serena Williams- Always gets it in the corners with alot of pace.
Forehand: Not many women have good forehands. Davenport is consistently powerful and can always find winners with it. Hingis' forehand is always perfectly placed.
Backhand Drive:
One handed - Henin-Hardenne- One of the best shots around. Can always find great shots with it.
Double Handed - Davenport- Another classic shot in the game. Accurate all the time and hits it flat.
One Handed Backhand Slice: Mauresmo- Perfect shot for grass.
Swinging Volley: Clijsters- Always put away in the corners well.
Forehand Volley: Mauresmo- Perfect technique, can hit drop volleys aswell.
Backhand Volley: Mauresmo.
