Sydney International - MedibankNadal - Cuccione in the first round! Cuccione got a WC after his incredible run in Adelaide.... Gotta pick Cuccione in this one!

It's an incredible match. I am really pleased for Guccione's run. He has won all 5 matches he has played in Adelaide and is in the final. He is still very young and has a huge serve. He could be Australia's big hope in years to come.
I still think Nadal will win this though.

I am not sure. I am watching Guccione play Djokovic right now. He is very good. He has a huge serve (something that can give Nadal problems), and serve and volleys a lot. Nadal will have to come out and make some great passes.

I know he is good and everything, but he is a young player coming in off his best ever run. We don't know how he will react or anything. He will have more home pressure on him in Sydney, it's a bigger tournament, and all eyes will be on him. Sydney have very slow courts aswell so it will be hard to serve Nadal off the court. Guccione has a chance, but I don't see Nadal losing this match.

Had Cuccione won in Adelaide, I would give him less chances. The fact that he lost in the final will make him more determined. I am picking him to beat Nadal, but loose by the QF.
Did you know that he is 6'7" ? He is very tall!

Berdych won the first singles match over qualifier Smeets 6-2 7-5. He had to overcome a break down at 4-5 in the second and won the last 3 games

On the women's side, amazing draw. Notable win: Jankovic def. Hingis in 3 sets.

No kidding, the womens event should be great.
I'm amazed at the tight scores of most womens and mens matches early on this year, its a good omen I think for the year. I think we'll have a lot of close-contested nailbiters. I especially hope they come in the slams, I'd take close drama over someone playing brilliantly and destroying the other player any day.

Go Guccicone even though Nadal retired. Spadea seems to be picking up his game. Making it past the RR stages in his last tourny and taking a set off against Davydenko. For someone with the most consective losses on tour that pretty good

He did make it to the semifinals of the Nasdaq one year (I think it was 2004), but lost to Roddick.

Just like I predicted: Ciccione would get past Nadal but be ousted by the QF.
Berdych lost the first set 6-2 and is down a break in the second at 1-3.
Blake is in the final
..and I am hoping for a Baghdatis-Gasquet SF

In Kooyong Andy Murray straight setted Marat Safin for third place.
In the final, Andy Roddick defended his title, ousting Roger Federer 6-2 3-6 6-3.

I am so happy for Roddick. What a fantastic win to defend the title This will get rid of some of the pain from that loss at TMC last year. Good for Murray to get third place, he has been in good form so far. Hopefully both Andys will have good Australian Opens.

That's a great start for Roddick, and he might be the one to push Federer at the AO. Obviously, winning three-out-of-five sets is different, but, now, there's more hope that he will do so.
