Serve grip suggestionI have talked to 3 coaches over the past week, and they have all told me that my serving grip is all messed up. Its mid season, and Im afraid to change, but can someone give me a suggestion on how to hold it when I serve. Im looking for a top spin serve by the way. Be as detailed as possible please! Thanks!

for the topspin serve (or kick serve) you grip needs to be more like a one handed back hand grip. and your toss should be alittle bit behind your hand and you need to brush up.
i hope i got the grip thing right

You should be serving with a continental grip. You're probably serving with a regular forehand grip, which will prohibit spin. First, learn how to hit the serve flat with the continental grip. The most challenging part will probably be getting used turning the racquet face as you hit it.

X.doublea take it away. I'm having trouble explaining how Pronation "happens"

It's a bit complicated to explain...I think it's sort of like the extention of the hand during the serve as the hand is turning to allow the racquet to meet the ball with a square face....

Yes you might have to ask your coach or find a video online to further explain it.

does it have anything to do with the wrist or forearm?

I think pronation is when your forearm turns as you serve in order to meet the ball flat...I'm not sure though. I tried searching it on the internet and found absolutely NOTHING.

At least he actually show Pronation. That's what's important

thats true, does that apply to slice serve too?

Yes, that's the position Sampras ended all his serves. Follow what Jim's saying...he knows what he's talking about.

at what part of the pronation am i supposed to hit??
|
x.doublea

Um, don't think of it that way, but for starters, think of hitting the ball slightly in front of you and not to high...

um...u might try that BBC web site that x. doublea mentioned...lemme find it..., try this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/skills/default.stm

Yes, BBC's skills site can be quite useful....

yep...cant figure out why they want to call the continental grip a "chopper"...still trying to do a between the legs hit...

It's actually simple: hit the ball directly under your body, use the continental grip, and hit the ball when it's dropped low so you can have a slight upwards trajectory on it. Don't hit it when the ball is too high, or you'll be crying!
