TENNIS Magazine: Recently you have been the subject of much controversy. PSALT had interviews with top stars prior the YEC and both Jennacourt and Phobe had unprompted, negative things to say about you. Jennacourt described you as "overated" and named you her least favourite person on the tour and Phobe called you "arrogant", "the slut" and also suggested that you said "you were better than" her. Are these accusations true, do you have anything to say in your own defence; the picture being painted of you right now is not very nice?
Sheila: Hahaha! Ah...don't worry I have gotten that before . I think many people (it's interesting how they are all female) just dislike me because I get a lot of media attention. I hate to say it, but they are merely jealous! Hey, I beat Vanessa Child when she was the unstoppable #1, which is something neither of them seem able to do. I don't see how I am a "slut" just because I am single. How does she know anything about my personal life? At least I'm not a choker like the other two. Jennacourt can't get past the semi's of a major, despite being so "talented" and highly ranked. Phobe just plays all the time and gets points for constantly reaching quarter finals. She rarely if ever wins titles. I don't think I am better than Vanessa Child because I beat her, and I don't constantly over-brag about my tennis abilities, which they frequently do. I don't mind though, since I get more photo shoots than both of them combined!
TENNIS Magazine: Hmm, interesting. Well, Sheila, I think it is debateable whether they are actually "jealous" of you or not. Getting more press attention is one thing but you are currently ranked 18th and have been predicted by your "rivals" to slip out of the top 20. What are your thoughts on your current slump in form, while you maintain upbeat and seemingly over-confident, surely your tennis counts more than how many photo shoots you get, doesn't it?
Sheila: Why else would they go out of their way to talk about me? I don't talk about them ever, so obviously there is something about me that they find worth talking about (jealosy maybe?). So I'm in a bit of a slump now. Plenty of people are. Nortan, a former top 10 player, is out of the top 20 right? And what about Puellus? Nobody ever interviews him about being out of the top 30 when he used to be as high as 10th in the world. I will not fall out of the top 20 unless I get injured; I'm not that bad. I am upbeat because there is no point being down all the time because of a few poor results. I don't think I'm over-confident at all. I don't think I should be in the top 10 right now, just in the top 15, which I will try to get to early next season. I could make a fer surpirses at the Australian Open, which I reached the quarter finals in two years ago, beating Jennacourt as a matter of fact in the round of 16. Of course I put tennis above everything else in my life. Photo shoots are what give me most of my income. Unless you are winning majors and big tournaments, you'd be surprised how little money palyer get withough some other source of income...my main focus will always be on tennis, don't ever forget that.
TENNIS Magazine Thankyou for your time, Sheila, good luck from TENNIS Magazine with playing yourself into form and getting back up the rankings where you belong!
