Season 4I know we still have Stars for Stars and Team Cup and stuff, but I have a couple of ideas for Season 4. Well done to everyone, especially Percy for completing another season of FTL. It has been hard work but as always, it is alot of fun!
Anyway, I loved the set-by-set updates, and the game-by-game updates made it even more exciting. Perhaps the set-by-set updates could be used more often, like in the finals of tournaments, and the game-by-game updates could be used in the Grand Slam and YEC finals. They made the bigger matches alot more exciting.
I also have another idea for next season. This season, we started using the second day of each Grand Slam for the later rounds. I think we could finish the tournament on the actual day, then have a mini doubles tournament in the second day of each slam. Players could partner anyone (unlike Team Cup). The second day would still count as a rest day, and the doubles wouldn't have any effect on the real game (confidence, energy etc.). This is just a thought though....

I do love the idea of doubles, but also like having a two day window for Slam singles.

This is just lumping more work on percy, the way he has gone this season at times it could be a struggle; I think if he were to do this, one of us could control the doubles part or SOMETHING to help him. I would be happy to offer my limited services...

I think the doubles is a fantastic idea, but someone would definitely need to be in charge of it. Percy should definitely make the selection.

On another note, since we will be using a 'Race' ranking next year (Slams+Teir Is +four other best results points wise), may I suggest larger draws? (For example, a 32 person sized draw with byes given to players according to rank and acceptance size)

I like the idea of doubles. It would add more variety to FTL (like maybe a serve and volley computer players and such).

I was thinking about having some larger draws for some tournaments, but I mean there are only 40 players, and I think it should stay the way it is unless someone can give me some really good reasons that I haven't already considered.
About the doubles, do you all really want it? I mean you get to play doubles during team cup, and if you wanted I could hold more charity events or exhibitions with really doubles matches instead...

Since we are going to have a race, I like to see larger draws in the Tier Is. In fact, we should only have one event during a Tier I week, just like the real tour. I hate not been able to get into the bigger events When you are low in the rankings and you only play the Grand Slams then you feel out of place there and you just prolong the rookie experience...
I also like to keep the singles over 2 days in the GS. (Tier Is can stay in a single day event - Draw of 32) We can add GS doubles if you want, but they must be in parallel to the singles and have the doubles SF and final on the second day. This way more players would survive into the second day of a GS.
and yes! I am sure Percy can use some more help. an easy way is by extending the season by pre-planning idle days where nothing happens like we had a few this season.

If we were to have doubles, it should be only the second day because doubles draws would be smaller anyway.

I know it's not ideal, but for some of the Teir Is, you can get rid of the lower teir tournaments and add players to the draws of the Teir Is....

Wait, so we are using the race rankings? It should be top 10 Tier I and II finishes, not just Tier I.

The ATP race uses GS, Tier I and the 4 or 5 best other results.

I think the draws for the tournaments should remain the same. On the WTA, there are usually a tier 1 and a tier 3/4 aswell in the same week so the schedule does not need to be changed.
And yes, obviously someone could help Percy with the doubles thing if it happens.

What's wrong with increasing the draws for Tier I's? Do you specifically want to exclude lower ranking players by design?
What about if we then forbid anyone in the top 20 from entering a Tier IV and top 10 players from entering a tier III?

absolutely not. somedays Tier III's are the biggest event that day. Tier IV's and III's are good ways to get match play and confidence. it is not a normal thing for top 10 players to play in them in the first place, but sometimes they need too. then look at Jbors, Stevos, ect. if we did that, neither of them could even defend their Tier IV's.

I was just trying to produce a counter argument. If tier I draws stay at 16 players, then we are excluded from being able to play in them and subsequently we are excluded from the race. Therefore, if we are going to keep the higher tier events exclusively for top ranked players, then let's keep the lower tiered events for us newbies and lowlies

I'm excited for the Aussie Open. It's a GS that I can do very good at. I look foward to it and the French Open. Oh and PSALT would you like to be the First blogger of Season 4 of FTL?

I am not excited at all for season 4. I am going to have a stevos/leftys kind of season where I am going to have to try and defend my points, and its going to kill me.
And I have a comment, I think we should stick to the same format and not the race. It will be impossible for players that have to hold points in Tier III's and IV's to get in 10 Tier I's. Let's just keep everything the same because so far it has worked flawlessly.

Thanks for all the time you're putting in!
I'm excited for Season 4. Nothing could possibly be worse than my Season 3. And I have not much to defend now. Apart from carpet and that Tier I. And I don't expect to hold that anyway. Hopefully I can rack up points from the tournaments that I did terribly in.

Im excited too, I have a couple tournaments to defend early on, but other than that, Im smooth sailing, and no Grand Slam round of 16's either
And jbors, you don't have to be in the same tournament to defend the points for that day.

I must say, I have learned my lesson from playing so many lower tier events. Are you playing in higher tiers Stevos?

Yes, of course. I will probably play one or two tier 4's.

those 20 or so Tier IV's you seemed to have won in Season 2 really came back to bite you. you could have easily challenged for the top 10 if not for them.

I am excited beacuse I have no points to defend! Great position to be in!
Percy, are you going to increase the draw of Tier Is to 32? It is definitely needed if we are going to have a race.

I don't think we should, because you have to get your ranking up to get in, and if you aren't high enough to get into a tier 1, you won't really be much of a challenge for the race that season anyway will you?
|
PSALT
|
Stevos is correct. Players should have to do what every other member did, play small events to get your ranking up, then enter higher events. Furthermore, one of the best things about Tier I's is you play top 15 players in the first round. It would take the fun out of it to play against Harriet in your first match.
