[Season 4] (Day 36) PSALT's Preview: Sharapova Cup
The first carpet Tier I of the year will be hosted in Sochi, Russia. Why Sochi was allowed to host a Tier I is another show of the tour’s stupidity. This is always a big event, and a favorite one (could the fact that female models in mini-skirts are the ball girls be a reason?). Another big thing for this event is the fact that two of the young guns are the top 2 seeds. NEA and PSALT are the 1st and 2nd seeds. Jennacourt is the defending champion; she has gotten a draw from hell. The thought of her defending is hysterical. Finally Trinky is the fourth seed. She will be lucky to get out of the first round, let alone make the semis.
Matches to Watch
Stevos-Leftys
Stevos has been sharp since Wimbledon. He is in much better form than his American counter-part. Leftys is a very good carpet player though. She is not one you want to draw early on this surface. I am not sure why she does so well on carpet, she is just very good about constructing points on this surface. Stevos is the favorite; I would not be surprised to Leftys make a run though.
Tricatrina-Jbors
Tricatrina can make great angles, hit delicate drop shots, and keep slices deadly low on this surface. She is more than capable of keeping snail like Jbors huffing and puffing after points. Jbors can have matches where he is hitting lines like crazy though; if he can do that he can limit Tricatrina’s options. Jbors will need to stay in control of points; he can’t let Tricatrina move him around the court constantly. Trinky has a great chance.
I have an interview with Jennacourt.
Q. This event is a 'changing of the guards' in a way. Two of the youngsters, NEA and PSALT, are the top two seeds. What do you think of them?
Jennacourt:
They are good players of course but I also think I have not been playing my best and that is why my ranking has fallen.
Not quite sure how that question turned into how she is playing.
Q. You will play either Stevos or Leftys, who would you rather play?
Jennacourt:
Well since I just lost to Stevos, then leftys!
Q. There has been quite a bit of changing in the top 5 as of late, who do you think are the best 5 in the world right now?
Jennacourt:
Well of course Vanessa is still the best, winning the U.S. Open and all, and Yodavitch has played very well too, the best for him ever. Not_Even_Amateur has played very well too. He is so consistant and never misses anything it seems. I'd say I'm still up there, as well as PSALT and Stroganoff. Ok, thats six, but what ever .
Q. How do you feel about your game right now? Critics are saying you are on the decline, what do you think?
Jennacourt:
I don't think I'm on the decline; that's unfair. I'm just not playing my best and I want to turn that around on the indoor courts. Both Vanessa and Yodavitch at one point were said to be finished, and look at them now.
