The Kuznetsova Classic will be the next stop for the tour. Not_Even_Amateur is the top seed, and will be looking to rebound from a disappointing showing in Laguna Beach. Tricatrina, Jennacourt, and Phobe round out the top 4 seeds. A rather disappointing showing actually, most players are resting in between Laguna Beach and the Agassi Open. NEA should get out of the top half without too much trouble, the bottom half is more open. Jennacourt and Trinky have great chances, as do Stevos and even Mollusk.
Matches to Watch
Stevos-Edelstein
Edelstein has gone from No.1, and one of the best players ever, to being a washed up No.17 who is still trying to hold on to tennis. Stevos is a young gun it’s young vrs. Old. Stevos should win; he had a nice showing last week, ousting NEA before falling to Bizet in three. John can win; it will however need to play at a level he hasn’t played at for over a season.
Stroganoff-Avolt
Stroganoff has been playing at the level that took her to her first, and only, Slam final. She has been a staple of the later rounds at Slams. Avolt has never been considered a real force on hardcourts he has gotten upsets however. That includes his routing of Dave last week. Avolt can win, I expect Stroganoff to pull it out in a match of good quality tennis though.
I have an interview with Tricatrina today.
Q. As the tour quickly speeds to the spot of your greatest title, do you think you can repeat? An unnamed player, who we shall call 'Stevos' for the player’s protection, has said you will finish your career a one-slam wonder. What do you think?
Tricatrina:
I have confidence that I can win a slam again soon. I've been playing to badly lately but I will find some form. Well Stevos will forever be a no-slam nobody, and just to prove others like him wrong I will just have to win the French Open next year.
Q. Do you think Child is not dedicated enough to tennis? Is she an undeserving No.1 because of that?
Tricatrina:
Vanessa is just, well, how do you say it...a little full of herself. It’s obvious that she isn't dedicated to tennis fully. She's playing a lot right now because she is winning. When she starts losing she starts pulling out of events and getting "injured" all the time, or taking a "break". The world number one should respect the sport more and not make endless excuses for a loss.
Q. You heralded young Leftys as a soon-to-be great player. She followed that up with a Tier I win. Her entire game as a whole as crashed, what is going on with her?
Tricatrina:
I've been playing just as badly as she has, and that doesn't make me a bad player. She will be even greater one day; she is very much like me. Those Hit'em-hard types like Jennacourt, no offense to her, but they just don't have the real tennis skill like leftys and I. I can see her winning a major within a year or so and would love to play doubles with her sometime next season.
