Of course, the Tennis gods have decided that two straight finals are enough for me.
“Should we allow PSALT a third final?” Tennis god #1 asks Tennis god #2.
“PSALT?” Tennis god #2 ponders, “Screw ‘em.
So, they set off to command their twin pixies, I will identify them as Pixie Light, and Pixie Dark, to mess with me. Pixie Light is in charge of bad calls, a few well-timed foot faults here and there should be good. His serve already sucks to we must of course make it worse with undeserved first-serve faults. The norm. Pixie Dark is put in charge of bad luck. Unlucky net cords, strange gusts of wind that blew an out ball in, and an in ball out, breaking my strings at inopportune times. They did their jobs well, that’s why I lost.
That’s out of the way, on to my stay in Melbourne. I arrived from Sydney two days beforehand, checked in, yada, yada, yada. I did the normal training before my matches; I was unlucky enough to be practicing on a court next to Leftys and Jbors. Jbors is ultra-competitive, and it was funny seeing him always lose to Leftys in practice matches. He would make up an excuse, she would call him on it, a fight would erupt (trouble in paradise?).
Monday I took time out to see Tennis Fan’s match, I don’t know him that well, but he played a solid match against Nortan. I then took the rest of Monday off. Tuesday came; it was sizzling outside, so the extreme-heat policy took effect. Nobody’s (Stevos) out on the small courts had to stop play, I am a star in Australia however, and so I of course got to play on the main arena where they have a retractable roof. I started out strong, punishing him with backhand winners in the first set. He managed to string together some solid point when I was serving for 5-5 in the second, and got the set. The third set was close until he tried to hold at 5-4, he was clearly nervous, seeing the finish line, and served a doubles and dumped a couple forehands into the net, I finished it with a drop-volley. The ever-gracious winner that I am, I congratulated him on a match well played.
I hit with Dave on Wednesday in preparation for my match with Stroganoff. When I woke up Thursday I could feel the bad karma. I had a short breakfast and watched Stevos lose to Yodavitch, even that couldn’t lighten my mood up. Come match time I tried to relax in the player lounge by making fun of Stroganoff, asking her why she is named after a fattening pasta dish, just simple stuff. They then brought us out on court, something I hate, I feel like a show dog, the applause for me was deafening like usual. You know what happened already, I will skip ahead.
I leave for the airport tomorrow; I will be traveling to Thailand. I know Doublea will be there as well, I would imagine J-man would be there as well to defend his title. My first blog is done see you around.
