[Season 4] (Day 16) PSALT's Preview: Nadal Clay Championship
What a draw in Spain!! Four of the world’s top five are present, eight of the top ten. It is by far the best draw since LA. Almost all the matches will be high quality. This will also be the last event before the French for many players. I will quickly do matches to watch,
PSALT-Stevos – A grudge match. PSALT has won four straight over Stevos, and I’m sure Stevos wants a win. On the other hand, PSALT has little pressure right now due him not being on a hot streak unlike Stevos has been recently. On raw clay courting ability, I would give the upper hand to PSALT. He is more experienced on this surface, and on most days would be able to outlast Stevos. This match will be close either way though.
NEA-Leftys – NEA had a horrible loss last week. He should be able to recover from it, but it will be a tough task against Leftys. Leftys has had a good, but not great clay season so far. NEA is by far the better claycourter, but must be careful to not let Leftys turn the match into a chess match.
Tricatrina-Doublea – A rematch of last weeks final. Doublea hopes that event is a sign for things to come. Trinky is a tough task however. Doublea will need to try and get to net and put as much pressure on Tricatrina as possible. He will get nowhere trying to outlast her.
One story I will write about is Sheila. If you notice, for the past year she has been horrible. Still however, she racks in endorsements. Why? Why because she is the new age Kournikova. She does little, but still is a Golden Girl. Call the big bosses at these companies pigs all you want, she racks in money. Something her more successful, but less beautiful peers don’t do. Rumors abound that she will be dropped from Dunlop soon, even if she is however, she will be picked up by another company that is eyeing a rise in sales. I have a brief quote from Dunlop,
“Sheila has been with us for a long time now and is a promising tennis player. We have had our disputes over the years and at the moment things are quite unstable, so we will see what ends up happening."
I have interviews with Stevos and Child,
Q. You had a fine start to the season, but have cooled slightly since the clay season started. Why? Many said you would get even better when clay came.
Stevos. Well, you can't expect perfection at every tournament. I mean, in the Coria event I beat Dave (who I am owning at the moment) and Tricatrina, the queen of clay! I don't think that is too "cooled off". Sure, I lost to Bizet, but choker or not, he is a great player.
Q. You will open against long-time rival, PSALT. Tell us about that relationship. You started of so well against PSALT early in your career, 3-1. Since the however, you have lost 4 straight matches to him. What happened there?
Stevos. With the relationship thing, we have our moments where things are not too pretty between us, and I think that comes out on court, with me especially. Also, as I said in my recent interview, I was so over-confident back then, it was ugly. It really affected me last season. Don't worry, I still have my wild, ugly side, it's just more repressed now.
But in terms of our upcoming match, I feel much more relaxed, and I'm just going to go out there and play my heart out. It's all I can do, but there will be controversy, you can count on that.
Q. You have always been known as a 'big mouth', 'dead man walking', 'psycho', or my personal favorite, 'fruit loop'. You seem to have calmed down though. Why is that?
Stevos. Prescription drugs. No, I'm kidding (is he really?). Really, I have just sort of learned that I shouldn't share all my intense emotions with the world, only some. I mean, I used to make a pretty big fool of myself at times, just due to my fiery personality. Plus now I am getting some.
Q. Are there any players you look up to on tour? Their games, their attitudes, how they handle pressure?
Stevos. I really used to look up to Dave a lot, because he seemed like a really smart, sportsmanlike guy, but that has kind of eluded him lately, and he is no match for me anymore.
Q. You have yet to get past the third round in Majors. Can you explain why? Do you choke or is it just plain, dumb, bad luck?
Stevos. It used to be choking last season, but honestly this season at the Australian Open it was plain old bad luck. I mean, come on, Yodavitch first match? He went on to win, and in other matches the other players may have deserved it. Not at the French Open though, I am going to give it my all to make it to the quarters at least. That is my ultimate plan.
Q. Have you noticed Sheila? Despite her poor play for over a year, she still has endorsements with Dunlop, many other companies, and has even got movie deals. Why? Is it because she walks onto court looking like a Playmate or what?
Stevos. Of course I've noticed Sheila! Who hasn't? It sure adds "excitement" to the tour, if you know what I mean. Well, I suppose girls don't enjoy it, except for Sarahginia, who I'm pretty sure is a lesbian. She always seems to follow Sheila into the change-room.
Anyway, of course she is going to get the big sponsorships, not all of them are based on good results. If you've got the goods, then you're bound to turn some heads, which is great for the game.
Wasn't she the playmate of the year last year? I think so, but of course it's all just good publicity for the tour. The more fans that come out, the better it is for the game, and she certainly brings the fans!
Child,
Q. You have been below your average this season. You seem more like the 'End of Season 1' Vanessa everyday. Why? Is Annessav failing? Or is it some other off-court problem? Is it NEA? I do think he seems less like a friend, and more like an obsessed stalker everyday.....
Vanessa Child:
Yeah, winning four high level events in a row is really awful isn't it . That is ridiculous and you know it. I just didn't win the Australian Open, that's it.
Q. You will play Jbors in your first match. Tell us about him. Has he been shut up by his poor play? Has his perfect world come crashing down?
Vanessa Child:
Well I think he was very arrogant early on his his career after he got a few upsets, but he is settling in. He has a good game; developing, but good.
Q. Are you suprised by the play of Yodavitch this season?
Vanessa Child:
I think everyone is surprised that he has done so well. To be honest I just thought his injury would be the end of his career. I'm glad he proved me wrong because he is a fun opponent to play against.
Q. I have a question about Sheila. It has come to my attention, that despite her poor play over the last year, she still racks in endorsements like crazy. Is this because of her revealing 'bunny outfits' and such, or what?
Vanessa Child:
Yes, well Sheila is interesting. Dunlop seems to just hang on to her because she gets a lot of media attention. She is a decent tennis player, but it still seems people are forever holding on to that moment when she beat me almost four years ago, hoping for her final breakthrough. I don't really know how hard she tries or what, and I don't really care.
