PSALT

[Season 4] (Day 15) PSALT's Preview: Henin-Hardenne Open

Liege will host the second of three clay Tier I’s. One could wish for a better draw, but still, it isn’t bad. Claycourter NEA is the top seed, and is in a tricky half. He opens with claycourt expert, Avolt, then Edelstein, finally either Dave or Tricatrina, two fine claycourters. The bottom half of the draw is quite wide open. Bizet has been quite bad as of late, Phobe can be written of as well. I can see anyone else in that part of the draw getting to the final.

Matches to watch,

Yodavitch-Stroganoff – Yodavitch has had quite a year, he has played well on clay even though he dislikes it. He will start off with Stroganoff, who grew up on clay. Stroganoff herself has had a good year.

Mollusk-Leftys – Mollusk had a wonderful year last year, and has managed to get himself into the top 10 this season. Leftys has been sliding, ranked 11 not to long ago, she has fallen to No.17. She has done well on clay this season, but you never know with her.

NEA-Avolt – Avolt is never someone you wish to play on clay, but isn’t clicking this clay season yet. In his last event he was easily handled by PSALT, a less natural claycourter than NEA. If Avolt can get it together, he is capable of pushing NEA to three, but an upset is unlikely.

I have interviews with JoJo, and NEA,

Q. In short, you have been pathetic this season. Why?

John Edelstein:
I'm aging, that's all. I don't know what else to say.

Q. Any news on your retirement? Is it still on? A time set yet?

John Edelstein:
I don't know yet.

Q. The French is approaching; do you honestly think you can make a run on your least favorite surface there? Who will make a run?

John Edelstein:
I think if I'm healthy and well rested I can do well, but it just depends on how many matches my body can go through in top form. J-man will either defend or Child will win.

NEA,

Q. Earlier this year you were saying you would have another mediocre season. So far though, you have done well. Is this the calm before the storm, or will you play like this all year?

NEA. It is that start to the season that worried me. I now, with hindsight, realize that those opening four or five tournaments mean relatively little. I did some research recently into the Australian Open; it amazed me how weak the Finals are compared to other Grand Slams. I just feel that some players take the opportunity to fly out of the blocks at the Australian Open while some of the best players, Vanessa and myself to name but two, take some time to get into the rhythm of things. Dav was a prime example this year, he has done nothing since! Now I am really, really pleased with how this season is going I really could not ask for much more so far. Now I just need to continue my form on claycourt, I am holding up my reputation now, and then put in a strong showing at the French Open!

Q. Old news, but what is your view on Ying-Chang. While she her possession of drugs has not been proven, and she has yet to be punished, do you think the tour should do something about her until this all clears up? Then, what about Harriet? Has she been unfairly accused by Ying-Chang? Should Chang be forced to pay for the emotional damage that she has inflicted on poor, depressed Harriet?

NEA. They are both rather pointless. I don't think either of them deserve the attention they get. Let us cut it short and end this here: Ying-Chang is an attention-seeking, melodramatic drama-queen who cannot let her tennis do the talking so she has to rely on her amateur dramatics. Harriet is a bunny rabbit trying to play tennis; she struggles to hold the racquet. I don't really give two cents as to what either of them have been saying and neither should you.

Q. What are your goals for this year?

NEA. To win a Grand Slam.

Q. Who are you picks for the French?

NEA. Hmmmm. Didn't see this one coming. I would have to go with PSALT to be honest, we have had our disagreements in the past but he certainly shows up for Grand Slams and I can guarentee he will make the Final at least. J-man is another, even though I just beat him today he really was a stern test for me. It could be a repeat of last years Final, other than that you have to look at Tricatrina and Vanessa. I thought you would ask for dark horses but, surprisingly, you haven't. Well here they are anyway:

Stevos and leftys! Two of my favorite players.
