While the clay season officially started last week in Spain, however that was a Tier IV, the Gaudio Grand Prix is a Tier II and people actually care. The clay season is packed to bursting with Tier II’s and I’s, this event is the starting point of those events. Doublea is the defending champion; I have no reserves in saying that he has been bad this season. He had a good run at the Lopez Premier last week, but a Tier IV crowd is much different from the top players that attend a Tier II.

Matches to watch,

Doublea-Avolt – Avolt lives and breathes red dirt; he will face all-court/serve&volleyer, Doublea. Avolt has not done much lately, put can put up a great fight on clay.

PSALT-Agassi – PSALT is by far the better claycourter, but Agassi makes his living getting upsets. PSALT had a good run a few weeks ago in LA, while Agassi hasn’t quite been at his best lately.

Dave-Aztec – Aztec has had a strange year so far. He had such a good run in Adelaide, only to get horrible draws then on out. Dave made the Aussie final this year, but hasn’t lived up to it since. It will be a match between players who have made underachieving the theme of their entire career.
