With just one more week of tournaments before the season ends, there is still one spot remaining. Phobe could still knock off dav6789, but she will need a big performance at the Canadian International. In fact, the two are set to meet in the QF in what could prove to be a decisive match.
The Indoor season has seen some strange results this year as many players have been pressured to get points to qualify for the Federer Masters Cup. Not_Even_Amateur revived his season to capture his biggest title, the Ljubibic International. He defeated a rejuvinated Yodavitch in the final, 6-3 6-3. He continued his run into the Sharapova Cup. He beat the two-time defending champion John Edelstein, and former finalist Tricatrina on the way to a final with Jennacourt. Jennacourt, the world number 1 still proved she was at the top of the sport despite her US Open loss. The final was very even until the final set, where Jennacourt forced her way to the title in brutal fashion.
The Nalbandian Open was full of upsets. Top seed Vanessa Child, in-form NEA, Tricatrina and indoor-specialist Bizet all bowed out in their first matches. PSALT capitilised on this to strenghten his hold on a place at the YEC and claimed his first tier 1 title. He beat Phobe in the final 6-3 7-6. The suprises continued as PSALT suffered a shock loss to Yodavitch at the Vaidisova Grand Prix. Unseeded Yodavitch went on to win the title over Vanessa Child. Bizet then came out of his slump to retain the Berlin International, with a hard-fought win over Yodavitch in the finals. Then, just yesterday, Vanessa Child won the Mauresmo Masters. She beat PSALT 6-4 6-3 in the final, and good friend NEA in the semis.
It is hard to choose one player who has been dominant during this indoor season. Yodavitch, who wasen't even trying to qualify for the YEC, was probably the strongest. He captured the Brazilian Open title and Vaidisova Grand Prix, aswell as an overall consistent indoor season. He has got back into the top 20, and looks dangerous for next season.
