[Season 3](Day 34) Child wins 4th Grand Slam Title!

Vanessa Child took another step to tennis greatness by winning the US Open for the first time, adding on to her previous French Open and Wimbledon titles. She now needs one more to overtake John Edelstein for the most Grand Slam titles. They both have 4.

In the first ever US Open that didn't feature all of the top 4 seeds in the QF, the draw looked wide open. Vanessa Child, the 2nd seed, was the only top 4 seed to survive the first three rounds, which she did with the loss of just 10 games. Jennacourt, Bizet and John Edelstein all bowed out in the second round to unseeded players.

The 5th seed and Defending Champion Tricatrina had been making quiet progress through the draw until her QF with Dreyfus, who beat Edelstein in a thrilling match earlier in the tournament. The match was played in the extreme humid conditions of New York in the afternoon, and became a battle of fitness and determination. Tricatrina, who first made a name for herself on claycourts was the fitter player, but Dreyfus was in the best shape of his life and stood toe-to-toe with Tricatrina right through the match. The first two sets, which lasted two hours, were even all the way. However, Tricatrina showed her true class in fighting through an epic service game to lead 3-2 in the final set. After that, Dreyfus started to crack and couldn't keep things on serve. Tricatrina eventually wrapped up the win in just short of three hours. Later on that night, Jbors47, a young American star took on the 9th seed Not_Even_Amateur. Jbors had delighted home crowds with wins over Jennacourt and Yodavitch, but was still an underdog in his first slam QF. NEA, the more experienced player, got off to a better start and broke serve for a 2-0 lead. However, Jbors showed the fighting qualities he had and broke NEA three times and eventually took the first set. NEA looked shocked, but started to move Jbors around the court alot better. Things stayed on serve until Jbors, spurred on by adoring fans, broke in the final game for a 6-3 7-5 win. The next day had the other two QF matches. x.doublea, the 11th seed breezed past former Finalist Stroganoff 6-3 6-3. x.doublea played brilliantly, serve & volleying with precision and coming in on his returns. Stroganoff could not come to terms with x.doublea's accuaracy and eventually went down in just over an hour. The last QF match had 2nd seed Vanessa Child against the 7th seed dav6789. This was the 3rd meeting between the two during the Hardcourt Summer, both sharing one apiece. Vanessa Child started slowly, going down an early break before breaking back for 4-4. dav6789 stayed focus and sealed the set as Child sent a forehand long. The second set started with a break point opportunity for dav6789, which he squandered. Child broke back in the next game and held on for the set. In the final set, both players started to hold serve more often. After many long rallies and break points for both players, the score settled at 4-4. From there, Vanessa Child came out on top in another long game and finished it off in the next.

The Semi-Finals were highly anticipated. The first one featured the highest seed left, Vanessa Child against x.doublea who had played very well in his previous match. x.doublea continued his form into the start of the match, sweeping his opponent aside in a quick first set. Child turned things right around in the second set, racing to a 4-0 lead. She was hitting the ball alot more cleanly and her passing shots began to find their mark. She stunned x.doublea in taking the set 6-2. Child took her momentum right through to the final set and x.doublea seemed put off. Child got to a 5-2 lead and won the set 6-4 after some brief resistance from the young Canadian. The second match pitched the defending Champion Tricatrina against the hero of the tournament Jbors47. Jbors received a standing ovation as he walked onto court but Tricatrina silenced the crowds in taking the first set 6-3 against a nervous-looking Jbors. However, Jbors' run wasen't over yet. He calmed his nerves by holding a few service games and eventually showed the tennis that had got him his far. He broke Tricatrina to love and won the second set. The final set saw Jbors go up a break early on, but Tricatrina used her experience to get through 6-4.

Tricatrina and Vanessa Child faced each other in the US Open final for the second consecutive year. The first set was close until the tie-break when Tricatrina showed her best form to take it 7-3. Child worked her way into the match and came from a break down tolevel the match. This set her up well for the final set in which she played her best tennis, breaking Tricatrina mid-way and eventually winning the title! Read more on the final here
