[Season 3](Day 25) Jennacourt Prevails in Suprising Draw!
Jennacourt took full advantage of a trail of early round upsets to take her first grand slam trophy.
Only three of the top eight seeds survived the early rounds to reach the QF. The tournament was wide open from that stage. Aztec won a tight match with the more experienced Stroganoff 7-5 6-4. Stroganoff was the slight favourite for that match, having reached a grand slam final herself. Aztec continued the form that saw him take out Tricatrina and PSALT, and didn't let the big occasion get to him. Jennacourt, the 4th seed swept the last British hope aside, beating NEA 6-3 6-2 in a very impressive display of grasscourt tennis.
On the other side of the draw, two on-form players collided with each other. x.doublea, who had a brilliant claycourt season was looking to reach his second grand slam SF of the year. In his way was the unseeded Mollusk, who had just won the Grosjean Grasscourt Classic, and was in the form that once took him to number 4 in the world. The last QF was between Bizet and Adelaide. Adelaide had a fairly comfortable tournament so far, helped by the early upset of Yodavitch. Bizet was perhaps the favourite to take the title as the highest seed left. He had a strong first set, but the nerves got to him in the second as he let a 5-2 lead slip. His experience proved vital in the end as he just squeezed past 6-4.
In the SF, the pressure of being the favourite still showed. He had a rusty start to his match against Mollusk. However, Mollusk was also nervous and let an early chance slip to lose the set. In the second set, Bizet once again choked near the finish. He had a match point, but eventually lost it 7-5. Bizet's experience once again pulled him through, but his bad reputation in SF's still stays with him. In the other semi, Jennacourt started to show the tennis of a true champion. For the first time in her life, she looked relaxed in a grand slam semi and came through 6-3 6-4 against a shell-shocked Aztec. This was her first grand slam final.
The final was between two top players who had never before won a grand slam. In fact, Bizet was the only player to have previously been this far in a grand slam. Bizet was perhaps the slight favourite, but judging by their SF matches, Jennacourt looked in better form. She came out on fire and didn't allow Bizet to settle, and won the first set 6-4. She went up a break in the second set, but she got nervous for the first time in the tournament. Bizet's level went up aswell, and he was able to level the match. By the final set, all the nerves of both players were gone, and they produced the tennis that has kept them at the top for so long. They traded games for a while, but Jennacourt pushed through and won three games in a row from 3-3. She finished the match in style with a smash into the corner and fell to the ground in joy. This is her second title in a row. If both her and Bizet can play like this more often, they could challenge John Edelstein and Vanessa Child for the top ranking.
