[Season 3](Day 24) Defending Champion bows out!

The first week of Wimbledon has been completed, but for the first time ever, Vanessa Child and John Edelstein have not survived.

Vanessa Child, the two-time defennding champion, was in poor form as soon as she started her campaign for a hat-trick of titles on Centre Court. She had a sloppy second round win over Beta, where she trailed by a break in both sets. In her third round match, she faced former US Open finalist Stroganoff, the 16th seed.Stroganoff was able to capitilise on Child's poor play. Having let a 4-1 lead slip in the first set, Stroganoff managed to edge Child out 12-10 in the tie-break. In the second, Child managed to hang on to a few more service games, but she couldn't find the court in the tie-break. For the first time ever, she left Centre Court as a loser.

John Edelstein, a former finalist here, didn't manage to find the form he is capable of on grass. His grasscourt preparation was beneath his usual standards this year, he lost earlier than expected at the Roddick Open. He had an encouraging first win over Rhomberg, 6-1 6-2. However, he was unable to build on that. In the last 16, he faced xdoublea, a player in his peak right now and who many placed as a favourite on grass. x.doublea raced to the first set 6-2 against an uncomfortable Edelstein. Edelstein started to get some rhythm on his serve and levelled the match with a series of aces. In the final set, the rain came down at 2-2 and forced play to stop for around 30 minutes. When they came back onto court, Edesltein was again slow to start, and x.doublea stayed focused to wrap up the match 6-3. x.doublea has now reached his third grand slam QF of the year.

Stroganoff and x.doublea have opened up the draw in the top half, but their QF opponents are even more unexpected. World number 25Aztec is having one of the best runs of his career. He had a slow start against Harriet in his first match, but came through 6-7 6-0 6-2. Then, he dismissed 8th seed Tricatrina in straight sets for one of his best career wins. He followed this up even more impressively against on-form PSALT. PSALT has had the best results of his career in just the past few weeks and has a game suited to grass. Aztec was in inspired form, and blew him off the court 6-4 6-3. Mollusk is also in fine form right now. Coming off a title win in Nice, he beat Ying-Chang and 6th seed Phobe both from a set down. The bottom half of the draw is a bit less suprising. Bizet survived a tough match against French Open Champion J-man. Adelaide took advantage of Yoidavitch's early loss to set up a match against Bizet. 5th seed NEA has started a resurgance in form to reach the QF. Jennacourt has looked in devastating form as she has waltzed her way through. So after an exciting first week at Wimbledon, the draw looks like this:

(16) Stroganoff v Aztec
(14) x.doublea v Mollusk

(5) Not_Even_Amateur v (4) Jennacourt
(10) Adelaide v (2) Bizet
