[Season 3](Day 22) Jennacourt upsets Edelstein on Grass!
Jennacourt signalled her intentions of being a factor at Wimbledon by winning her first ever grasscourt title at the Roddick Open. After a rather inconsistent season so far and a shock early-round exit in Paris, she went to Austin just to find some form, let alone win the title! She cruised through to the SF, perhaps helped by the first round upset of PSALT, to set up a match with top seed Bizet. Bizet, who was runner-up at Wimbledon last year, was one of the title favourites and was expected to beat Jennacourt quite easily. However, Jennacourt held her nerve to win 7-6 4-6 6-3 on a surface she is not comfortable on. In the final she faced the two-time Defending Champiom John Edelstein, who had never lost a match at this tournament. Edelstein had continued to like the grass courts of Austin, as he took out recent French Open Champion J-man, and Wimbledon Semi-Finalist NEA on his way to the final. In the final, Jennacourt showed she had learned to play on grass as she simply thrased Edelstein, dictating play from start to finish. The final win was sweet revenge for Jennacourt after her very tight 4-6 7-6 7-6 loss to Edelstein last year in the SF. The Roddick Open has also been good for NEA, who had a dismal claycourt season. He has been vocal about the fact he doesn't like grass too much, but he had a good run to the SF here ahead of Wimbledon.
Also during this grasscourt season, PSALT came straight from Paris to Sweden for the Johansson Cup and claimed the biggest title of his career. His 0-6 6-3 6-1 win against top seed Bizet was particularly impressive. Mollusk had a good run to the final with wins over NEA and Phobe. Yodavitch had a successful comeback from a long injury lay-off. In only his second tournament of the year, he won the Sprem Summer Lawns. He beat an on-form Ronatta 6-7 6-0 6-1 in the final. Despite the loss, Ronatta had a great tournament, highlighted by a brilliant coneback against top seed dav6789 in the QF.
Next week, the last grasscourt tournament before Wimbledon will take place, the Grosjean Grasscourt Classic, in Nice. Phobe and dav6789 are the top seeds there, and young player Kellygirl will make her tour debut.
The tournament commitee at Wimbledon have announced a new seeding system. The seeds will now be ordered based on their past results at Wimbledon rather than their current rankings. Alot of players have different seedings they expected. This new system has received good and bad feedback from the players.
