x.doublea

[Season 3](Day 2) PSALT- ITF

ITF: Congratulations PSALT on your spectacular run the finals! We thought it would be impossible for you to repeat last year's magical run, but you did! How did you manage to pull out of those two really tough quarterfinal (def. Vanessa Child 6-2 6-7 7-6) and semifinal (def. x.doublea 4-6 6-3 6-3) matches?

PSALT: Glad to see you have such faith in me! Wink I feel alot of support here, I really feel like a fan favorite and that pulled me though alot of tough points. I also got alot of confidence from beating the drama queen "Trinky" in the RD16.

ITF: When you lost the first set to x.doublea in the semifinals, we all thought that the Canadian might just pull it out and make a fairytale run into the finals. Were you thinking the same, or were you confident that you could come back? Because he was playing some fantastic serve and volley tennis.

PSALT: After I lost the first set I put it out of my mind, you will never win a match if you can't put sets you lost behind you. It was tough, Doublea has such a complete game that there isn't anything to attack unlike trying to get NEA to net, or J-man to get down on himself, or things like that. I really had to focus on my passing shots and not play sloppy points, because I knew if I just threw a careless passing shot in he would execute a perfect volley. I also really tried to take control of points from the beginning and make him uncomfortable being forced to play defense.

ITF: We see that you surely put this into effect in the final as well. You lost an extremely exciting first set to John Edelstein, but came roaring back, winning the second set 6-2. Then, suddenly, he broke right back in the first game of the third, and never looked back. Was it a matter of mental relaxation, or did you feel like, "One more set, and I win the AO", and felt the pressure?

PSALT: There were some nerves for sure, I would have been the first of the up and coming generation to win a Major so I was nervous. John is such a good player that he jumped on that hesitation from the get go. My game revolves around getting balls back and in that third set I got nervous and my movement was effected by that. John plays such a big game that he was able to exploit that with sharp angles, drop volleys, and just moving me around in general.

ITF: Should we be expecting a third AO final (at least) next year?

PSALT: I hope! I have enough faith in my game to think that is a possiblity but you never know what can happen in a year!

ITF: Thanks, PSALT, and good luck in the future.
