Vanessa Child – 3-0
John Edelstein – 1-2
Dave – 1-2
Tricatrina – 1-2
There was some controversy in Edelstein being picked over Dave, and Tricatrina. I will not get into it here, I am sure journalists will write about it, the same journalists that don’t care about players feelings and enjoy making them squirm, the opposite of me. So, as you can see, there were a few surprises. The most glaring is PSALT being the top player out of group A, with a convincing win over Bizet, edging Jennacourt, then, in his words, a loss to NEA that ‘he didn’t put himself into the match’, saying he was already guaranteed a spot. Whatever though, on to group B, there Child was dominate, even for her standards. The rest of the three players exchanged losses for all of them to finish, 1-2. Semis will be,
Q. A controversial tiebreaker brought you through to the semi's, what do you think of it? Have you spoken to either Tricatrina or Dave since? I know the answer is no, you say about 20 words a day, but humor me.
John Edelstein:
I think it was only fair the way it was done. I had the most number of games and the highest game winning percentage. No I haven't talked to Tricatrina or dav6789 since.
Q. You will now play top seed from Group A, PSALT, a player who has given you trouble in the past, thoughts on that match?
John Edelstein:
It will be a tough match I know. PSALT and I have had some good matches and I will have to play my best.
Child
Q. As expected you breezed into the semi's, not even dropping a set against established top players Tricatrina and John, and then young, up-and-coming Brit Dave. You are seen as the overwhelming favorite for the title, do you agree?
Vanessa Child:
Yes I think I am the favorite to win the title now, but the round robins are only just qualifying for the final draw. Last year it was the same and I ended up losing in the finals, so hopefully this year it will be different.
Q. You will play Bizet in the semi's, the player that beat you in the final here last season, thoughts? Who is your prefered opponent in the final?
Vanessa Child:
Bizet always plays his best here so no doubt I won't be able to squeeze by him with bad tennis. I feel comfortable gonig into the match though and besides last year's final I have a pretty good record against him, so that gives me the extra bonus. In the final...well I always love playing against John, but we had one of our worst matches in the round robin and I think he just needs to rest. He looked so tired in our match it just wasn't fun to play against him. I think PSALT will make it through and I have to admit I do want to play him. He is obviously one of the best players right now and I really want the challenge.
Bizet
Q. You managed to get out of your group by the skin on your teeth, it was not in the fashion the two-time defending champion usually advances. Anything good to take from those matches? Against NEA was the only time you seemed to be playing that well.
Bizet:
I guess it wasn't too clean, but both years I was not expected to win, even after the round robin rounds, so I can only hope for the same!
Q. You will play Child, you are the huge underdog, do you prefer it that way? You won't have the pressure that you had against the likes of PSALT and NEA.
Bizet:
Yes it's nice not having pressure on you. She will definately be the favorite, but she was also the favorite last year when we met and I somehow managed to beat her in a great match. It will be extremely tough. Even on her off days she is a force to recon with.
PSALT
Q. Suprisingly, you came out on top of your group, how nice is that for you?
PSALT. Suprisingly? I picked myself to be the best from my group, and it happened like I said.
Q. You play Edelstein tonight, thoughts on that match.
PSALT. John is a great, albeit dull player. We have played many times in the past. He was far from good in his RR play, and I feel I can beat him.
