This year the ProKennex Charity event was held in Little Rock, Arkansas, and a few fans showed up to see their favourite players enjoy friendly matches, sign autographs, hand out posters. This years charity was Neuter-That-Dog, a non-profit organization that spays and neuters stray dogs and cats from the streets, and is a very worthy cause. Leftys_Rock attended, and even had a look-alike contest, which a 17 year-old girl won from Little Rock. The girl won a chance to hit with leftys and then got to sit down for lunch in the players lounge as her reward. Leftys also released her new calendar, which was greedily picked up by her fans and flew off the shelves.
Other players there were X.Doublea, Mollusk, Avolt, Ying-Chang, Nortan and Jbors47.
The popular canadian Doublea was greeted by many excited fans who were desperate to get a glimpse of the recent US Open Semifinalist. Some Diehard fans also came from Toronto, Canada to catch a glimpse of the star. The dogsled trip was extremely grueling, but they went the distance for their favourite. X.Doublea is chasing a spot in the Year-Ending Championships, and has recieved a lot of press for consistently great results in Grand Slams. He and compatriot Stevos14 are known as the posterboys of Canadian tennis and have started a massive surge in the sports popularity back home.
Young Star Jbors47 could be seen with a pack of girls following his every move. The new-found american wonderchild has been praised for his amazing US Open Semifinal run, taking out Jennacourt, the world #1 at the time. The line in front of his autograph booth was astonishingly long, and the young starlet was then seen clubbing at the local hotspots in Little Rock.
Some friendly matches were contested, here are some results -
X.Doublea def. Ying-Chang 6-0 6-0 Poor Ying-Chang broke down after losing the first set to love, and cried her way through the second.
Jbors47 def. Leftys_Rock 7-6 (6) 2-6 7-6 (5) This match featured some really fun points, with the young guys cheering on Leftys and all the young girls rooting for Jbors.
Mollusk def. Nortan 6-4 6-3 No one watched this one, except for a few fans that held up signs featuring "Come on Mollusk, Nortan's Crab Meat!" and "Allez Escargot!". Mollusk left immediately after.
Avolt def. Ying-Chang 6-0 6-0 Ying-Chang took some calls really seriously and had her lawyer on the sideline the whole match, but never got her momentum as Avolt laughed her way to a double-bagel win. Ying-Chang was booed off the court. She is suing 5 fans for emotional assault.
Statements to come...
You recently attended the ProKennex Charity Event and we were wondering how important Charity work is for you? Also, you were seen enjoying the local clubs in Little Rock, do you like to have fun in your time off or is it just practice, practice, practice?
Jbors47 - Charity is something that is very important to me. I love reaching out to the less fortunate kids and give them something that they can cherish and love as much as I do. During the season it is all tennis for me. I am very strict in how I approach my training and diet. I am in this to win. In the offseason though, I party it up and have a good time doing multiple other things beside tennis.
You recently played at the ProKennex Charity Event, was it fun to play in front of your fans in a relaxed setting, and how much do you enjoy charity work? Also, some diehard fans from Canada came to see you play in Little Rock, was that special for you?
X.doublea - Oh, it was definitely a really enjoyable experience. I love interacting with kids, and I love helping in introducing the wonderful game of tennis to them. I'm sure they were happy with the free racquets too, custom designed to help kids become even more attracted to this wonderful game. I hope they enjoyed my exhibition match against Ying-Chang. I tried to keep it friendly, but she seemed to not show up physically, unfortunately. I really didn't want to win love-and-love, but she was just depressed in that second set, and couldn't really keep the ball in the court ... And, about the Canadian fans, it's nice that people back in Canada are appreciating my attempt to help make the game of tennis better.
You recently played at the ProKennex Charity Event. How important is Charity work for you? And you also released your new calendar, how exciting was that? Has that always been a dream of yours?
Leftys_Rock - Charity is wonderful. Helping benefit the needy would make anybody feel very good, no matter what their donation was: time, money, effort, etc. About the calendar, it was very fun doing it! I normally don't do this kind of stuff, but the people there made me feel very comfortable under the lights, even though i'm not the most comfortable with a camera on me. I'm glad fans liked it. My match with Jbors was very entertaining, I hope the people watching were entertained!
