Valkryie (Valkryie always gives NEA trouble, and upset NEA in Paris earlier today), Stevos-Agassi (Stevos is turning blue from choking all summer), Ying-Chang-J-man (J-man has been a little disappointing since the French, he has the tools to get it together, but Ying-Chang is a tough opponent if you aren’t on you game). Ok, I do have a sort of tribute to Edelstein in this preview. I am doing it now in case he does retire after this event. It really can’t be a real tribute; there are a few people here that are not happy with his retirement. So, for those rabid JoJo fans out there, don’t kill the messenger!!!
Here are statements, good and bad, about JoJo from the generation that grew up admiring him. My general question for them was whether or not they like JoJo’s upcoming retirement, and whether or not he was being a coward. These are the more interesting parts; the names of the person who made the statement will be in parentheses,
Yes of course he is a coward and his retirement is equivalent to someone running for cover! He is a dry character like Pete Sampras was but he is no Pete! (Tennis Fan), Not sad about the whole retiring part of it though, sad about how he hasn't conditioned and taken care of his body like he should have. (Jbors), It really speaks of his character I guess, and that he really doesn't have a passion for the sport. (Stevos), I plan to play until I turn 35 or 36 and still be able to beat up on the younger players. But hey, maybe JoJo just isn't as athletic as I am. (Jbors)
He may be getting older but when you are still winning tier 1's you still got a year left in you. (Agassi), I think it has been a bit sudden, maybe he has had a change of heart after winning in Belgium (Dave), I am sure he will be a sad loss to the tour but he really doesn't interest me (NEA), Well, he's had a great career, and it's all up to him if he wants to retire or not. (Leftys), He's a great player, by far one of the greatest players still playing today (Doublea)
Even if he quit today he would go down as a great champion and would be remembered forever by the tennis world (Agassi)
He will surely be missed by the tennis world because of his great athleticism and his love for the game. (Benchwarmer)
Hopefully he stays involved in tennis even after he's retired. (Leftys)
I do wish him the best of luck in the future though... (NEA)
He is a legend in tennis and some of his achievements will never be repeated again. (Dave)
