PSALT

[Season 3] (Day 29) PSALT's Preview: Agassi Open

The Agassi Open is one of the oldest and most respected events on tour. It is renown for hosting many charity events a year, and is one of the many ways the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation helps at risk children in Southern Nevada. Even so, top players are rare this summer, they seem reluctant to play. JoJo had commited to play here, but pulled out due to a stubbed toe. There have been other instances like that this summer, for example, Stroganoff pulled out of the Petrova Cup citing a hangnail. These “injuries” have affected fans and tournament directors. Before I start ranting let us get off the subject. One controversy that is brewing is about fiery Brit Not_Even_Amateur, who demolished Jennacourt in Russia yesterday. Jennacourt then said she felt “half-asleep” during the match, as always with NEA the media pounced on it and cited NEA’s slump as his motivation to drug Jenna. I have an exclusive interview with NEA later in the interview regarding that. I tried to get Jenna’s opinion on the matter but she refused to comment on it. Ok, before the interview as always I will point out some matches to keep your eye on. Firstly there is a first round encounter between Ying-Chang and Mollusk. The two have met a large amount of time recently, and their games match up quite well. For the quarters the premier match seems to be the highest ranked players out of the upcoming generation, a matchup between world number 7, PSALT, and 8 Dave. They are two of the best hardcourters on tour, Dave has a Tier I title on hardcourts, and another final, and PSALT has two hardcourt Slam finals. Two other matches of note include tactician Tricatrina playing all-courter Doublea, and then Bizet playing “never say never” Leftys_Rock. Here is my interview with NEA,

Q. Jennacourt herself said that she felt "tired" during your match against her. The media (not me of course) has pounced on that, and said you are bitter and mentally unstable and that you drugged her out of desperation. Comments?

NEA. Ha! That is really funny. The media should know I am far from a cheat. A loudmouth? Yes. Slightly arrogant? For sure. Say what’s on my mind? Definitely. But not a cheat. Definitely never a cheat. Ever. They know that, they just like their stories! Hey, who cares, it was certainly funny to read.

Jennacourt says she was tired but really I just outplayed her. At the end of the day if I do bring my game I can give anyone a game and beat anyone, recently I have been playing terribly, and I think this results is only a slight improvement, Jennacourt is a choker, she always has been and always will be. I need to beat the likes of Edelstein, Child and PSALT before I am well back with my comeback!

Q. Obviously you have been in a huge slump, are you starting to find your game again?

NEA. I would like to think so but this is only a stepping stone. It should not be over-exaggerated. I think I could fall straight back into my slump, things are just not going right for me this year but we will see. I am feeling confident now and am content to keep playing my game; only time will tell as to whether the rot has well and truly stopped...

Q. You have slipped to being the third ranked player from your generation, the lowest ever. Is it important for you to be ranked higher than the rest of the young players, or is that more of a bonus than a goal?

NEA. Certainly more of a bonus but it meant a great deal to me. Of course if we took who has been the longest standing at that point my dominance is unquestionable. Other players have took advantage of my ridiculous slump, I am quite proud I am still amongst them to be honest. They should be scared that I have no points to defend next year...I know I would be! I hate being the second ranked Brit because I, and everyone else, knows I am the most-known, most-loved, most-admired and pretty much most-talented of all the British players but I am sure dav6789 won't mind stepping out of the way if I can regain my form.

Q. The USO is coming up, what are your chances, and who are you picks?

NEA. My chances are slim to none. I am in terrible form and expect nothing from that tournament. I think PSALT and dav6789 will do well, one of them will win it I expect. My darkhorse would be a certain mysterious leftys_rock!

Picks,

Ying-Chang def Mollusk 4-6 6-3 6-3
Dave def Ronatta 6-2 6-2
PSALT def Dreyfus 6-1 6-4
