The tour now moves to the green grass of Texas for the only Tier I grass event and one of the most important tournaments on tour. The event boasts and all-star field this week, 7 top ten players, and both Grand Slam champions this year. The tour has been rather quite since Roland Garros, no name-calling, no catfights between Child and Tricatrina, and surprisingly Sheila has stayed with an actor for more than one week, so no public break ups for her this week. Johnny E. is the two time defending champion, but has a horrible quarter and could get upset here. Bizet is the top seed and while he has an easy opener, it will be hell from there. NEA is here as well, for one of his few grass events ever outside of Wimbledon, he will be looking for his fourth career grass win. Of course one of the biggest stories will newly crowned Grand Slam champion J-man, he is 5-5 on grass for his career. He seems more and more like an unconventional claycourter though, the high bounces of clay give him time to set his feet and drive through the ball, also on clay his volleys aren’t easily picked on. On grass however his groundstrokes are rushed and is often drawn to net by short, low slices. He does have the ability however to do well on grass, he will have to gamble even more than he does already though. The top four seeds here are Bizet, Johnny, Trinky, and Jennacourt. There are some interesting matches here, Leftys-JoJo being the biggest opener. NEA plays Dreyfus, which could be interesting to see if NEA can get a win (their match was conveniently scheduled after NEA’s weekly therapy session, so no worries there). The favorites here are Bizet, JoJo, Doublea, and PSALT. Yes J-man won the French, but I will wait until I see his performance here to make a judgment on his grass play. Even though he isn’t in this event, Yodavitch comes back from injury today, so stay tuned for Stevos’s wrap in the next few days to read about that. I have interviews with NEA and Doublea today,
Q. What has happened to you? Despite being ranked 7 you have fallen of the map on challenging for tournaments. Bad luck, pressure, just bad play, or what?
NEA. Right now I am just having an absolutely terrible time, a real torrid time. It is disturbing. Nobody has had anything like this in soooo long, I used to consistent always, if nothing else, but of course I had great tournaments where I beat the top players. But I was always at least consistent. Always. Now I cannot win a game against a decent/good player, even on clay where I consider myself the best out and out, I really cannot explain it right now but, being truthful, I am looking to next season, this year has just been a complete and utter disaster.
Q. J-man and PSALT met in the final of the French, would you have expected that? Were they deserving of it, or were there runs a fluke?
NEA. I quite expected PSALT but I really don't know how j-man managed it. Their runs were not flukes, although PSALT barely scraped past me even though I was 50 levels below my usual form, and they are both great players who thoroughly deserve the success.
Q. You have changed your schedule to include grass events; do you know how the British public is taking it? Are they hoping that you are working on your game to bring the Wimbledon trophy back to the UK?
NEA. Don’t really care how the British public view my schedule. I only changed it because I was sick of the sight of clay, having had a terrible claycourt season, so I opted for grass. So far I haven't won a game, losing to Mollusk, yes Mollusk - somebody named after a crab or something - and I don't expect to get any further. The British public should look to dav, I am afraid I will only disappoint them!
Q. You have been called a complainer. People say you complain after every loss, people cite you are annoying and immature about it. What do you think?
NEA. Well that is up to them I suppose. If you could get back to me with their names that would be most appreciated, people have a nasty habit or not saying things to my face, whereas I would just tell them what I think. Better out in the open, is it not? "Immature" is such an interesting word, I mean you would think some of the younger guys on tour were babies, fooling around saying they are going to do this and that. Quite pathetic. I do complain though, a lot, but I am rather entitled too, I would just appreciate it if someone said: stop complaining, then I would.
Q. As of now, who are your picks for Wimbledon?
NEA. PSALT for sure will take his first Grand Slam title; I have no doubts about this. Obviously the other contenders are there but for me there is only one winner: PSALT!
