[Season 3] (Day 15) x.doublea- Tennis Life

Tennis Life: You had amazing support at this tournament as ever x.doublea, you are truly a fan-favourite. However, I feel obliged to say this, I have just been talking in the locker room with some fellow players, none of whom I shall mention, and some of them suggested an easy draw played a major part in your run here. "Beating Phobe and Ying-Chang on clay is hardly worth so much attention, he got lucky!" was a comment from one individual, where do you stand on this?

x.doublea: Yes, they might be right. Like, who would have thought that Sheila would have beaten dav6789, or that Bizet would lose to Ying-Chang? Just for the record, I have beating both dav6789 and Bizet in the past... sometimes marginally. I guess they (the other players) have a point, but you have to realize, in a more than tough match, I was beating John Edelstein, definding French Open champion. I think that just shows that I can stay with the best claycourt players. I don't consider my run lucky at all.

Tennis Life: What happened in that Final with Edelstein then? 6-1 in the opening set, you were set for a huge victory at a Tier I, did the nerves get to you because the second set was so close? We all know how John seems to get himself out of tricky situations with younger players like yourself, how do you think your lack of experience, in comparison to that of Edelstein's, shaped the outcome of this match?

x.doublea: Well, I think Edelstein pikced it up late in the second. Obviously, I was a bit tight, realizing that if I won one game, I would be a game away from the championship. Nevertheless, the game at 5-6 did go four or five deuces before I made that really silly drop-volley which landed a sitting duck for him to pass me on set point. It just shows that Edelstein's experience pulled him out today. I don't think my lack of experience shaped this outcome; I think any player, experienced or not, would tense up just a bit in that type of situation. I guess I had a chance in the third, but my returns were just ineffective. Throw in a double-fault and a few unforced errors on one of my service games, and you have it. I have learned from it though, and I'm try to fix it up at the Nadal Clay Championships.

Tennis Life: Thanks, x.doublea, and we hope everything works out well!
