ITF: Congratulations dav6789 on your spectacular win at the Williams Series- Serena! You played some really inspiring tennis throughout, beating Bizet, N_E_A, and x.doublea. You even came one game away from beating Vanessa Child in straight sets in the final! Were you nervous at 6-4, 6-6, or do you feel she just raised her level of play?
dav6789: Thank you. I am happy with this tournament, but I am a bit disappointed about the final. I had the momentum going my way, but the tie-break went by so quickly and then the rest of the match. I was put-off because I kept thinking about Vanessa's ankle. I don't think it was bad enough to pull out of a tournament. She really didn't look affected in her previous matches, and she was fine against me. When she had the injury break, I was still a bit annoyed about it. I managed to stay in the match but she raised her game in the end.
ITF: Is she the only one you think who uses these timeout tactics, or are there others?
dav6789: Oh no, I don't think she used it as a tactic. If she did, it wasen't at a crucial point in the match or anything. I just don't think her injury was bad enough to pull out of the previous tournament, and I feel bad for Stevos and PSALT, who could have had a better tournament. When she had the time-out, it annoyed me even more because I don't think she should have been playing with a bad ankle. I don't think anyone has used a timeout against me as a tactic. I know Jennacourt likes to take her time in matches, but I haven't had any problems like that before.
